Remote start options?

What are your thoughts on this remote start? I come across it by doing a Google search and there isn't much info on it, but it sounds pretty simple. I'm a minimalist and still being able to use the factory key fob would be great, and I don't need much distance when starting my truck.

If not this remote start system, which would you prefer?

 

Following, my brother has a good system. I'd be leery of this one since there's not much info on it. Cool that you can use your key fob but I'd want to make sure it has decent range. Also, the advantage of having the remote start aftermarket FOB is that it can tell you the status (lock/unlock/on/off) of your truck.

 

That would be a nice feature to have. What about the one made and installed by Toyota? My local stealership quoted me around $450 for parts and $420 for installation.

 

i used the viper on mine with cell connection for gps and other nice stuff, and on both tacoma and tundra. Love the out of it. Installed both myself (former 12 volt guy here).. Aftermarket ones are just as good as oem ( who you think makes the oem ones? hint hint) label it charge twice the price and get half the real features of a good one for oem).. just like putting in $1000 in a sound system but keeping the stock radio pointless.

 

The complaints I hear about that system is the engine shuts off when you open the door, forcing you to restart with the key. At the very least it seems that would double the wear and tear on your starter.

 

I asked my dealer about doing a remote start and he suggested I wait for a minute. Toyota is supposed to be rolling out an improved version for the Tundra later this year. It is called the START +

 

After Toyota told me the price of theirs, I was looking at this one and a few others from Viper at Best Buy. They did the remote start on my Tacoma and it worked perfectly, but I lost my security since I bought a cheaper one. This time I want a good 2-way system and for the price and ease I would probably just let them do this one too.

I'm not looking to get one right now since I'm in the process of buying a house (closing on 2/29), and I like to weight all my options before any purchase. If the pricing is good and the options are as good as the Viper, I would definitely let Toyota put one on.

Not a bad deal. I plan on ordering the part and then having someone professional (dealer??) put it in for me.

 

The only thing about the Toyota system is the poor range. My Lexus had the same system and I had to be 30-40 yards line of sight and then have to do the 3-4 button push which if you were on the edge of the range, one or two of those wouldn't register and you have to start over. My son has the Viper on his Tacoma and he can be inside and almost 1/2 a mile away and his starts right up and it gives him feedback that it is started and locked/unlocked. Just my $.02.
