CD player rant

So I just bought this truck and have had little time to dig into it. Unfortunately I just found out the cd touchscreen nav voice controlled device has a whopping storage of one cd at a time. wtf! This never came up and I didn't think to ask as I assumed it would hold 3+ cd's like any other car does. My 2008 held 6 cd's out of the factory. So what have you guys done to upgrade this? I don't want to spend a fortune but I got to say I'm pretty bummed.

 

What's a CD....

Well one way around that is to rip all your CDs onto the computer, load them on your phone and play stream them by Bluetooth to your radio. I've had my truck almost three years and it's never even had a CD inside the cab.

Exactly!!! What's a CD? I still wonder why automobile manufacturers even put dash units in. All they really need is an interface to your phone, or better yet, just a large storage device to load all your music and maybe even videos on. While on this subject,....why have they not given radio DVR type options? Often when listening to morning, sport shows, I wished I could rewind or record what someone had said. It would be so easy. Anyway, good luck with the Disc changer. I think if you look on eBay, you could find one of those sony trunk mounted 50 disc changer!!

 

Im not a gadget guy. I suppose I could learn to burn music and go another route.

Google: How to burn a MP3 CD. You can get a lot of music on a CD that way.

Also, you could Bluetooth your phone as previously mentioned or USB connect an iPod.

Lastly, I don't know if this has been tried, I had an F150 that had a second USB connection in the dash that was easy to get to. I plugged in a cable and connected a hard drive and it automatically picked it up as 'USB2' and I was set.

 

You don't have to be. Even a flash drive or your cell phone will work. Sometimes it sucks to have to change what you are comfortable with. This will date me, but I resisted changing from tapes to CDs... But once you get all your music on a flash drive or phone, I swear you will wonder why you didn't do it long ago.

 

I agree with "TruckyTruck". I din't mean to sound like an *ss before about the CD changer. Heck, my first car had an 8-track player and came with it's own 8-track mix (Oldsmobile). Look for a deck with good bluetooth capabilities. Some phones have aptX bluetooth which allows for better sound provided your deck also has aptX. A lot of these decks are around $100 and some don't even have CD players built in. I know I have probably over 600 CD's somewhere in my garage. It's actually nice not having to haul them around and worry about them getting stolen, or scratched. Heck, maybe someday they will be worth money again.
