I found a screw on the right rear tire last Saturday. I went to America's Tires Company and got a new tire. They were friendly and professional. In less than an hour I was outta there. The guy said he checked the tire pressure on all 4 tires and also the spare. I thought that was awesome. Awesome service. When I got home I check all the tire pressure just to double check. I found that the right side front/rear were at 34 PSI but the left side were all 40 PSI. The moral of the story is to always double check someone else's work. Quoting my hero "Trust But Verify".

Another thing I should check is the lug nuts. Make sure they are properly torqued...... going to do it now.

Definitely! Check the torque when you get home and the pressure. I also tell them what pressure I want my tires set at. Wife’s car, 36 PSI in the front 32 PSI in the rear. My truck 38 psi in the front 28 psi in the rear. These have been my golden numbers on my current set up’s.

The lug nuts seemed properly torqued. I'm glad he didn't go nuts with the impact gun.

Yeah they scratched my rims before with an impact. All the lug nut hole were given a rimshot. They also messed up my wheel locks by not using a shallow socket on the key. They broke 3 of my friends wheel studs. All of these instances, they never fessed up. I had to notice it. We are at their mercy, we have to check their work.

I now take all wheel locks off before even stepping foot inside a tire shop.
I’ve had a bad run of wheel lock issues for the past 2 years. Long story short, I have replaced 3 wheel locks.

The reason is due to tire shops using impact guns on the wheel locks. The Toyota ones can barely take the torque they are rated for.
    So this is my experience:
    Tundra- broke the key.
4Runner- broke key and placed back like nothing happened. That pissed me off.
    Tacoma- broke key
Lexus- key was missing from prior owner.
GMC- lost key, but found it the next day. Now these wheel locks are like the Gorilla locks. They can take some torque. I can finally say again that my lug nuts require more torque than what my wife’s Subaru makes. Lol

That’s really bad. Good idea to take off the locks first. I started taking off my valve stem caps and center caps before I go in. It’s irritating watching them just pop them off and leave them upside down on the shop floor. If I remember sometimes I’ll slip them a 10 or 20 and ask them to do everything by hand. And I always remind them not to scratch my wheels for me LOL they probably hate me.

I had that happen in my Camry. It displays all the tires psi. Drivers side was close to 50 and passenger was 30's. My OCD drove me wild.

Good reminders! I checked my pressures but did not check the lugs. What’s the torque spec?

Who cares if they hate you. I remind them that I’ll be back if things aren’t right. Anyone of those guys in the back would be equally pissed if their wheels they worked hard for got scratched up.

50? Yikes! That’s probably exceeded the maximum pressure for the tires. That’s dangerous.

Years ago my wife (girlfriend at the time) had a flat while we were out. No problem I grab the spare and start changing. The shop must have used an impact gun set on gorilla and I could barely get the lug nuts off. I ended up breaking 2 studs and bending the crap out of the lug wrench the car came with by the time I got the wheel off. I knew the manager of the shop who rotated her tires last and gave him an earful, his response was "well you don't want the wheel to fall of do you?". He replaced the studs free of charge...

Regarding the lug nuts, as far as I know there is no way to tell how tight they are and at what Ft/lb so what I would do is go ahead and loosen up one lug nut just by about 1/4 of a turn and then torque it to spec. Now you can use that lug nut as a guide. With the breaker bar, loosen that nut and see how much effort you put in to loosen it up. If you were using a 24inch bar it should be loosen up pretty easily without much effort. The key is to remember how much effort you had to put in. Now you can guage how tight the rest of the lug nuts are when you go around and loosen them. If the guy at the shop didnt go crazy on the impact gun and “torque to spec” as they cliamed then they all should be easy loosen up. I hope that makes sense. If someone has a better technique please share it.

So to recap loosen up each lug nuts by 1/4 turn and retorque them to 97ft/lb

That’s the reason why I have a 24inch breaker bar with the right size socket in all my cars.

LOL. They read the label on the side of the tire plus a few extra PSI.
