New to Tundra Question

I have finally gotten myself into a Tundra! I came from an F150 and so far the only thing I don't like about my Tundra as much as I did my F150 is the steering feels "loose". That's really the best way I know how to describe it. It seems to have a little play and not as firm as my F150.

Is this typical in these trucks or is there an underlying issue? I'm in a 2014 TSS SR5 Crew Max 5.7L. I appreciate it guys!

If you're referring to how you have to make a lot of corrections frequently it's normal. My '11 did it and so does my '16. You get used to it after awhile but I preferred the steering in my '04 Z. It was just solid and didn't hardly move on the highway. My Tundra I'm always making corrections.

 

After a while you won't even notice it anymore. I have a 2018 Tundra and its might be a little tighter because it is new but it still was an adjustment for me, also coming from a 2016 F-150 with electric power steering.

Thanks guys! Yeah, ya'll are referring to the same thing. I've always driven F150s and the steering is tight so I'm just not used to it yet I guess. I appreciate the help, I was worried might be a bearing or tie rod issue of some sort.

Thanks for the welcome guys, looking forward to mods and learning more about these trucks...another odd ball question...the guy I bought the truck from scratched up the plastic on the doors pretty good from kicking it..anyway to fill those in and get them back looking clean?

Trying to upload pics but my phone is being stupid, may have to get them uploaded tomorrow at work. Marine1, you are right about that! I wasn't expecting that much more power in this truck, gonna have to tame my right foot a bit!

 

Finally got my pics uploaded, hopefully I'll be able to get better pics this weekend since Turkey season is in full swing now. Thinking the first thing that needs to happen is deleting the chrome...As you can see, the guy that owned it before me had a habit of kicking the doors when getting out. Has anyone tried anything to fill these in and/or remove them? Never had this issue so not sure what to try first.

 

Haha...mine is scuffed up too...didn't know I was doing it until it was too late...interested in suggestions too.

I like the stance of your truck. I have a ‘16 CM TSS and yours looks higher than mine in the front. I know you bought it used, but do you know what type of level or lift you have on it?

 

I actually do not at the moment. I have come close to tracking the guy down that owned it before me though as he's local and bought it at the dealership I bought it from. The sales manager said he remembered the deal and that the dealership put it on but nobody could tell me much else.

 

Welcome from Arizona. My truck is still relatively new and I haven't noticed any play in the steering wheel at all.

 

My Tundra is new to me also I traded my 16 Tacoma for a 14 Tundra.. so my friend said WTF Mike why you going to go older instead of newer??? The taco was a 4-cylinder and not for door so that was my big thing. Couple from South Jersey brought it up north Jersey to trade it in don't know why not sure if I should be waiting for something to happen but the truck only had 21,000 miles on it when I bought it

 

On the door scratch issue, I'm wondering if plastic dip will mask them...what do y'all think? A little leery about dipping the doors and having it come out clean. Habe any of y'al done this, anything to be concerned about?

 

You might create an irreversible mess with plastic-dip because it probably will not match, peel off and the solvents in it will damage you door panel. I would just stick with ArmorAll or a similar product, that is what everybody else (including me) uses.
