Help me pick between this 2008 and 2011

Hello all, I am new to this forum and I am going to join the Tundra's family. Please bear with me and forgive me as I am still too new in Tundra.

I actually had 2 tundras to choose from now. Please help me to pick the better one.

1) 2008 SR5 5.7L TRD, 115k mileage at cad$22k
2) 2011 SR5 5.7L TRD, 117k mileage at cad$27k

I searched the web, here what I found (please correct me if I am wrong).
- 2011 has knee airbags
- More recalls on 2007-2009 models

What other pro and con between these two trucks? Please give me some suggestions. Thanks a lot.

 

I'd go with the newer one. I have a 2011. There is one issue, the air pumps for the emissions systems allow water ingress and I just had to replace one of them myself. For some reason the 2011 model is excluded from the recall/extended warranty for that part. However nothing else is wrong with it and it's a great truck. I've attached the repair manuals if you need them later on. Ask the dealer to show you any pending codes with an OBDII scanner.

And yes, my 2011 has knee airbags as well as airbags in the seat and side curtain air bags. I've got the 2011 SR5 4.6L. You'll love the 5.7L TRD.

Besides the pros and cons, they are pretty much the same truck, same body style so I'd suggest the 2011 since Toyota has been making that body longer they've worked out more kinks.

 

I would also pick the 11 if it appears they have both been cared for the same way.

27k for a 5 year old truck with 100k+ miles? If your spending that much why not come up with a little extra and get a new one? (paid only 28k for my 2015 brand new although its only a base model 2wd). Dont sell yourself short by only searching for a few days or on a few sites. Even if you dont wanna go new, I would think you could find a very nice used 2013 (maybe even a 14) with way less than 100k miles for 27k...


They are great trucks and hold value well but 27k for a 2011 seems pretty steep! Just my 2 cents.

27k is in Canadian dollars (approx USD19k). And the mileage is 117,000km (approx 72000miles)

I am actually looking for 4x4 with 5.7L engine, so if getting a new one is Canada is probably CAD40k or up. And, price could drop half after 5 years.... well, I asked myself I don't really need a new truck. Thanks for suggestion anyway.

 

Hmm, 19k USD for a Tundra with 72k miles? That's not a bad deal at all. I bought mine used with about 95k miles on it for about the same price.

 

Go with the 2011........just because

 

ahh that makes WAY more sense lol. I would say 19k USD is fair for a used 2011! Good luck, you will love the Tundra!

Some more questions:

1) What is the standard height of this truck? The dealer said it's not lifted but seems it's very high. Can you tell by the pictures? And can someone tell me the measurement, such as from the edge of the tire to the fender? So I can measure mine. Thanks.

2) My sensors (at the front and rear bumpers) seems not functioning. Do I need to switch on? And how to check?

Thanks. Will try to get some pictures tomorrow. I remember the rear shock is in blue color (the sales said it's because TRD package)

As for the parking sensors, I wonder why they make a switch for that. Is that because to save the sensors' life? What is the correct practice for this?

I believe other cars like BMW they have it on all the time. Even when you stop at the red light, someone get too close, my friend's BMW sensor still warn about it.

 

I found the button to turn on the parking sensors, but seems like it's quite "slow" in response. Does it senses only car/object? Does it sense human or living life too?

What is the practice? Can I leave it on all the time? Would that shorter the life of the sensors?

 

Here's mine (2011 SR5 4.6) for comparison. With my 'Texas Edition' I think I have bigger tires and wheels. I've got rear view camera but no sensors.
