So here goes... I bought my truck last Friday with the intend of it being a work truck. I started a small business this past fall doing mobile welding and fabrication, focusing on the small jobs, repair and otherwise that the larger lacoal welding companies won’t mess with or are just too expensive for people to think about. I’ve been usin my ‘87 4Runner with a trailer and it’s gotten me buy until now.. but just barely... a 30+ year old 22re is a BAD A** engine but isn’t intended to tow a 1000+ pound trailer.

    On to the tundra:
    2010 DC Off Road edition
Bucket front seats and standard flip up rears

    Mods already done:
    - Fog light on independent
    - diff breather relocated

    Mods to be done:
    - Custom painted wheels to match business logo theme
    - Flat bed for welder and tools
    - air bags
    - TRD rear sway bar... see some good things about these, ably using one with a truck that DOESNT tow regularly, is it worth it or should I wait till I’m pulling a trailer more?
    - BHLM
    - engine driven OBA ( this may not happen, have to look at potential output capacities and see if it’ll handle my requirements)
    - lift and tires... it is a work truck so nothing HUGE, probably 2-3” simple, bilstien or similar and +1 tire size in an AT

    Clean out:

I bought the truck from an auction house and they only do a basic cleaning of even the outside... the inside was GROSS...

    Starting:

    3BF88CED-37FD-4EE1-9424-2B6636923A91.jpg

Took out the entire lower interior; seats, center console and carpet... also took the shifter apart because it, like the rear of the drivers area was full of old McDees...

    Under the drivers seat:
    634E53F8-D01E-4231-821A-8A21CB74E065.jpg

    Shifter nastiness...

    Passenger seat area:

I didn’t take any pics of it clean because, well.. it was just a clean truck... haha

    got it started today...

One of the mounting bolts really didn’t want to come out so it needed some modification to get a better bite from the impact...
trace out a 3/4” bolt head a get to cuttin with the angle grinder!
    90B71A65-724E-48D2-B057-C8DFA5F1CE78.jpg

Starting reference for height; approximately 11” from the inside of the rear tire to the wheel well liner:

    Bed off:

    Some basic layout and planning:

    DF515F90-E9AD-443D-9BC8-8E95DF538605.jpg

Got the start of the framing done today, will do the flares over the wheels tomorrow or later this week.

    9A2D75BF-3EBD-4D20-93AA-226898C92790.jpg

    Got a pile done yesterday:

Wing box lids on... both of theses will be wetween 3-6” deep. Perfect for holdin things like the grinder, hand tools, tools sets, drills and what not...
    3D6A4F7C-E033-4877-87A5-6BCF31101826.jpg

A couple views of how they lock:

1x1 Angle trim with a perfect birds mouth.. this wraps the doors around the back of the bed, adds stability as well as waterproofing once painted:

    4953560F-9473-428A-AF5D-69E4B81EAB8E.jpg

And one with all the rear doors up... the plan is to put hydraulic lifts on all... I’ve got 2 from a truck top that should work perfect for the sides, not sure what for the rear yet

Still to come, skinning paint and lights!

    Diff breather mod
Sense I had the bed off for the flatbed build it made routing the hose a whole lot easier. Instead of just squeezing it through anywhere I could easily slide it through the frame rails and then I taped it in with the rest of the fuel fill neck.

Finally made further progress... with starting my business and getting the farm I manage back on track I’ve been really busy the last few months. But in the last few weeks I've finally had time to get things wrapped up on his truck:

The boxes are finally done and being used

The headache rack is started and will be wrapped either tomorrow or Monday.

I certainly hope so!!! If my business grows like I think it can then LT from suspension and Baja fenders are also going to be in the works... needless to say, I like to stand out

Can anyone give me a link to the thread showing which wire to cut to get rid of the “key in ignition” reminder... I know o found a thread before but I cannot find it again... and no I don’t want to just pull the plug in the steering column.. my keys are constantly left in the truck and I don’t want it to get accidentally locked

Good Lord, that truck was filthy. Impressed with the effort you put in to clean that thing up.

I can’t help you with your questions, but I’m sure someone on the forum will know how to help you. I’m just looking forward to this build.

You'd put LT on a flat bed work truck?

The BHLM is very common. Mine are bhlm/HID retrofits. The sway bar will be a really nice addition to your ride whether you tow or not. I removed mine for 4 wheeling but it's totally worth it on the street.

Absolutely! My business is focused on custom and crazy stuff.. if I can do thins to my truck that make it stand out and show off more of what I can do then great! Plus..1. I may build my own kit (which couldn’t be a for sale product) and 2. Whether it makes me money as an advertising piece or as something I sell it’s a write-off either way... so I get a crazy cool truck that I can enjoy everyday AND it’s paid for under the business

Huh... it’s not in the Mods/tutorials thread and I hadn’t noticed it in any build threads yet, I just didn’t think anyone was doing it but good to know.. that’ll happen soon then too.

And thanks for the reply on the sway bar. This truck will see plenty of time in fields and farm roads but probably little in the way of true wheeling so a sway bar is likely a future addition

@MotoTundra retrofitted his own headlights and did a write up I think. Maybe he'll chime in and point you in the right direction.

That’s an awesome looking truck but no... I’m going to style mine after the one in this video... love this off-road design and think it’ll be way more useful to me directly:
