What Brakes do you use?

I have 55K miles on a 2012 CM and have already replaced the front brake pads and turned the rotors at 30K and need to do it again. This is my top disappointment with this Tundra.
I do drive all most all city so I know that effects it but this is a little ridiculous.
Really all street, no offroad or gravel driving.
I have the wobble pretty bad right now .

My questions are:
1. What brakes or set up do you use?
2. I have read that a lot of people use Stop Tech and Power Stop. Which gives the best overall performance and longevity? Power Stop seems to be about $50 less that Stop Tech. Is the Stop Tech worth the extra.
3. What other brands to consider?
4. At this point from my readings/findings I am leaning to the Power Stop.

Power Stop w/ Hawk brake pads work great. I always use Hawk. Check out DBAusa 4000 series rotors. Might try these on my next round. Make sure you always wear in your new setup with gentle braking for a hundred or so miles before you do any hard braking. Good luck

 

It would be awesome if a company like Wilwood made a bolt-on upgrade for Tundras.

 

I'm also running Power Stop with their Z36 ceramic pads. It's a night and day difference and can't beat Amazons price for the kit

 

I bought the truck in DEC of 2012. I will check the backing plate.
I took the truck to the dealer I bought it from and they would not do anything. Told me it was normal wear and tear. I took it to a different dealer, just before the 36 month warranty ran out, told them the story from the 1st dealer.They said they would take care of me. They are the ones that turned the rotors. Not sure if they changed the pads or backing plate. They did not charge me as they wanted me as a new customer.

I had an 06 before this truck and had the same type of issue. Maybe its me? I always used Toyota parts. My wife had a Sienna van and on a Sunday she told me her brakes were making noise. I looked at them and the pads were basically gone so the only place I could find was Sears. I know, they only lasted about 10K miles. I was at the 1st dealer and they had to redo the whole front system and told me they use autozone parts at Sears and they just wont last long. Maybe a story but it fits the answers and cause. Could have been a story but they were gone again. I will not use discount brakes anymore. Learned my lesson, the hard way. Its is either OEM or premium.

Centric Rotors is a great place to start. Most of the main aftermarket rotors are premium rotor slugs machined out (slotted/cross drilled).

Do some research on slotted, cross drilled, or a mixture of both, or just a regular brake rotors. This is a picture of the Corvette C7R rotor used on the race team.

My Corvette came with crossdrilled and ventilated brake system for cooling and weight reduction. It worked GOOD. My Lexus IS350 has air ducts as well for cooling, but I chose to use blank rotors up front since I never track the car (maximum surface area).

Centric rotors are way cheaper, is it because of advertising monies, or do you know. They are made by stop Tech or vise versa.

 

I have to check and see. If not will a dealer make the upgrade for free or will I have to buy them??

I had that horrible wobble and brake pulse with my 08 tundra. Tried everything from balancing the wheel to resurfacing rotors and changing pads. I finally upgraded to this (Stoptech front slotted brake kit):

And it was night and day after that. I eventually got the rears later on to match the fronts.

After digging around more and exploring the options they are comparable in cost.

my preferred method...



i put a set of powerstop drilled/slotted with ceramic pads on the wifey's car. huge improvement. not sure if i'll go that route on the tundra or just solid rotors. being in the dirt, i'm kinda leaning towards solid.

EBC is a good stuff. had them on my FJ and they were a huge improvement over stock. i also run their pads on my mountain bikes. totally different scenario i know but i like their pads.

I know ... the TRD ones are front only and I think those might be 2.5k

I would love to find a kit front and rear for 2k or less myself.

And don’t forget with most big brake kits you will need larger wheels. The one I posted requires at least a 20” wheel. So there is that expense too.

 

Got 20" wheels and I dont want to go any larger.

 

I wouldn’t either unless I was cramming some like 14-15” wide tires on for a different look.

 

oem brakes are 14" diameter.the stoptech kit is the same size but uses a 6 piston caliper for improved clamping force.
willwood offers 15 and 16" rotors but no complete kit yet.
the trd bbk is made by stoptech and uses a 16" single piece rotor with the 6 piston calipers.
rotora has a very nice kit with 16" floaters front and rear with 8 pistons front and 4 pistons rear.nicest feeling system out there currently with great stopping power and firm pedal feel,unlike the oem or trd offerings.
