Taco Tunes vs other guys

I am trying to justify the additional cost for going with Taco Tunes vs say Amazon or Crutchfield. I put together 3 complete packages including amp and sound processor. If I use a Rockford amp the cost difference is $105 but if I go to a lower priced amp like a Rockville then the diff is $205. The differences are in sales tax - $50 (Tx only), shipping $20 (Tx), harness' - about $50. ? is how is 100% PNP worth. Taco Tunes is giving me all kind of reasons to buy theirs but the numbers don't make sense. They told me if I travel to San Antone and pay cash they will waive sales tax. I don't travel that way enough to justify the trip. They said I will void warranty by hacking up wires. I can buy a wire harness for truck side and not cut or splice anything. Not quite as clean on the other end but will work fine. I am kind of using $50 as my break point. Now the question I will I notice a difference between the Rockville and the Rocfkord amps. Just spent an unexpected $1k on new fridge so saving a little dough means somewhat more today than 3 days ago. Wondering who else has done a similar analysis and what you decided. This is a simple benefit versus cost analysis.

 

100% piece it together on your own! You can shop around for the right equipment for your needs and budget vs. getting whatever a company can get the best deal on, package it with a couple adapters and call it "PNP".

 

I went with ********* (system is on order now) because I like the fact they specialize on Toyota’s. I’ve used Crutchfield tech support in the past and was not impressed. And with Amazon, no tech support at all. My vote is for *********.

 

Ok, pretend for a sec that you have plenty of wiring experience and no real need for tech support. I think Taco Tunes is well worth it for someone that might need tech support and without 100% PNP they would need to pay an installer.

My only advice would be you get what you pay for....A cheap amp, speakers,etc are going to be just that..cheap..just make a good decision based on the type of music you listen to and how you listen to it.

 

My last Tundra I did a complete rewire and a full custom audio. From the Q logic dual 8's, new speaker wire, new head unit, soldered every connection, and full sound deadening. It was a badass '05 AC. God damn I miss that truck's sound.

That truck got smashed in a bad accident. Gone. Dumb bitch ran a red light and I tagged her good.

Now I have a 2016 DC and the sound was total garbage. Pretty sure all the door speakers were blown when I got it. I needed a new system. I still have all my speakers and amp from old truck, do I cut up everything and make a custom install? I opted not to do that. I went with a ********* amp, door brackets, and all their oem connectors to use the stock HU and run new speakers. I did some math and saw crutchfields options. I even cross checked some prices on sonicelectronix (FYI that place is the shit). I decided to invest in Tacotune's R&D and buy their setup. Whole deal cost me about $420. And that was without speakers because I had my own. Totally worth it. Everything worked. Everything plugged in like it was supposed to. I didn't have to remove the HU at all.

Sure it's not going to win a contest, but it's not getting stolen because there's nothing to see. I listen to punk rock music and this system sounds great to me.

I still need a subwoofer, haven't picked one yet. Probably going with a sealed 10 under the rear passenger bench. Cool thing, when I add the amp, it's only two wires because ********* amp rack is already prepped for it.

 

The question is, what are you trying to do? Are you piecing together everything on taco tunes website? If you buy a complete system setup, let's say system 1B, it's $1600. I know that prior to learning about *********, I was looking at about 3K to 4K. For a complete system overhaul with top quality products. Not only that but, the Toyota focus they have and they are a small independant local (Texas) company. Not to mention the customer service, if you were to have an issue, would probably be better to get a replacemet part than Amazon or Crutchfield. For $50, I think that piece of mind would be worth it.

 

What about OEM audio +?

 

Without the power wire for the amp the Rockford is $259, LCI processor is $214, harness is about $16. With a Rockville total is $100 less. Also looking at the LOC6 which would knock off another $100. Not sure if the LOC6 will clean up the signal from OEM head unit. If it will I do really need an equalizer.

 

Sorry, for $1600 I can put together a much better system. Taco tunes is feeding me a bunch of crap about having to hack vehicle wire unless I use their stuff. This is simply not true.

I have not decided which speakers to get. Debating whether or not to add tweaters. For sub it will probably be a shallow box 10". I need the little bit of storage space behind rear seat.

piece it together yourself the wiring is not hard to do. there are lots of helpful videos on you tube that can walk you thru it

 

I spent lot less than 1500.00 and my system rocks.....i did Memphis highs.......and designed my own box nd installed my own wiring I did one 10 inch sub Addictive audio 750 RMS and 1200 watt max and still only spent about 800.00

 

So you made this post just to put down there system?thats all im seeing you post is how you can beat there price and quality and there lying about needing to cut up the wiring...thats not a cool thing to do IMO...

Did not start for reasons you stated. I started to hear other people's opinions and get some ideas. Are you a fan boy? Don't really care if it is cool or not. I have chatted with Taco Tunes and explained why they were not competitive on price. I gave them every opportunity to come back with something to offset. They only came back with the wiring BS.

 

Well im mot a fan of there stuff nor am i a boy,but ive looked at there stuff and understand the appeal of it to some and hear its a good system.

 

I have heard conflicting opinions. Part of reason for post.

 

@james@tech12volts ROCKS! Quality sub enclosures with fiberglass resin reinforced interior walls, plenty of shallow mount sub options, and LOTS of options for mids / highs. Customer service is unparalleled. Full disclosure...YES, I am a fan boy!!

 

I put the hem audio plus in my Tacoma. It sounded much better and was plenty loud. I don't know if it was worth the money but I didn't want to cut thing and I wanted to install it quick. It was cold outside. Took a couple hours and it worked fine. They were very nice to deal with as well. Taco tunes is similarly priced and looks similar.
