Those shelby f150s are insane. If I was ballin I’d pick one up for sure. Might be expensive and sure you could probably build a similar truck for a little less but I wouldn’t knock it.

My Tundra cost $34K back in '13. If I took that price point and dumped another $66K into it, I could easily get a final result that would "blow the doors" off of the Shelby. $66K is a lot of money to play with - especially if you prefer to do your own work.

I'm not trying to say it wouldn't be fun to drive or that a SC Tundra would be comparable, but I just think he could add a SC to his limited and have nearly as much fun for way less. He is almost 78 and I couldn't see him smoking the tires all the way down main street. We have discussed him adding a SC to improve his towing experience and so I could test it out for him when I visit :headbang:! Plus, he could buy a fully restored GTO (and will it to me) with the difference...:drevil:

I’d rather buy a Raptor and send it to Camburg for a Fox 3.0 setup and have money left over.

How exactly? Are you master mechanic that can somehow do more than a supercharged tundra? And factor in all the bells and whistles the Shelby has, ur $66k wouldn’t cover a complete interior and exterior overhaul along with a super charger (again, which still wouldn’t keep up) unless you were doing the work yourself

And why do people miss the point here? Guys aren’t buying this truck as their only vehicle. This is a truck for people with some serious cash. I don’t see threads about how stupid it is buying Ferrari’s or Lambos... if you’ve got stupid cash you buy what others can’t.

Who needs an exterior and interior overhaul? When you say "blow the doors off" - who gives a crap what it looks like?

I agree - if you want to make it look pretty, then $66K isn't maybe enough if you are paying off someone else.

The Shelby is a 5.0 liter engine. It puts out 700hp, which is impressive. I think that if you just bolt on the Magnuson supercharger onto a Tundra with their basic tune it gets you into the mid 500s HP if I remember correctly. But, the bottom line is that the Tundra has a 5.7 liter engine. There is no replacement for displacement. I know of a couple of different Tundra owners that have builds in the 800 HP range and shooting for higher. Yes, you will have to beef everything up behind it. Then, build a suspension to run.

I am not a master mechanic. Just a mechanical engineer that has a couple of fun builds under my belt and I like to design stuff. I also like to do most of my own work - I would leave the engine tuning to a pro, though. I will stand by my claim that if you gave me $66,000, I could turn my Tundra into something that would be faster and handle off-road terrain better than that Shelby could. And I would do nothing to make it "pretty".

So what's the argument then? Because I really don't see it. You could also buy a bone stock f150 and spend less than $66k and give it the performance of the Shelby version, without the "pretty" stuff. But the Shelby f150 doesn't cost $100k just because of the 700hp... it's got all the bells and whistles they could throw on it. Anyone who spends that kind of money on a vehicle clearly would give a crap what it looks like inside and out.

You can buy a base model tundra and build it up to be far more capable than a PRO for less than what a pro costs, yet guys still want trd pros feverishly. Are they stupid too

You said that it would "blow the doors off" of a supercharged Tundra. I am just claiming that it wouldn't - with the right components and correct tune. The Tundra engine can be tuned to higher levels. It is bigger. All I was really saying is that for a total of $100K, I think that I could make a much more capable truck than that Shelby. Heck, I could do it for much less, I think.

And I did just what you said in your second point - bought a base model and upgraded it. Spent far less on it than a pro costs. Are people that buy pros stupid? I wouldn't say that. Some don't have the time, resources, or desire to try and mod a truck. They prefer the turn-key approach. That is fine.

I guess there’s no pleasing everyone.

I look at it like this, the facts:

    -It is very expensive, period.
    -Fun factor...overwhelming.
    -Total bad ass.

For me, I would never buy one. No practical use for me other than supporting my local Police Department in fines. However, I’m also not so close minded to say it isn’t totally bad ass, regardless of price.

For the people that think they can build one better....get on it. We had a member here (Bandit1) that built a pretty bad ass long travel truck. He also had a totally custom fuel management system and some internal parts upgrades...650 hp. He was coming up on 100k for his truck and the rear wasn’t even completed yet, nor was the rear axle built....etc. his was all built with sponsorship funds.

Ha ha, this is kinda funny. I just was hoping my dad wasn't spending $100,000 on a Ford (he was the one who turned me on to a Tundra). Not trying to knock anyone's life choices, but neither of us have money like that! If I had money to burn... maybe :devil::devil::bananadead::bananadead::bananadead:
