One thing that we hate about our trucks?

Cylinder deactivation, start stop are just some of the things. I hate the way the trucks with this stuff drive so I love how the Tundra is. Plus that's advertised MPG from the other trucks, not actual...two very different things.

 

Actually? This is a thing? I thought my heater was fucked and was gonna bring it up in the 16000km service.
If there actually isnt a fix for this....i may ditch the truck. I cannot stand having to close all my vents just to have floor only when its clearly stated on the selector.

Theres also a bunch of other shit too. My feelings for this truck are fading. When I get a more comfortable ride out of my beat up 7 year old work truck its starting to bug me.

 

My wife had that crappy cylinder deactivation on her 2013 Yukon. It just made it so there was not enough power when you needed it, still got crappy mileage. She traded it for a 2017 Sequoia (she was a GM person from way back, wouldn't even consider a foreign car - now she is totally on board with Toyota).

I'm not sure what the issue is with mpg. I get 16-17 consistently with my 2018 5.7L 2wd DC. Almost the exact same mileage I got with my 2006 4.7L 2wd AC. AND I get 100 more horsepower. I'm cool with it.

I hate the cheap ass plastic inside. Dash, doors, etc. It scratches so easy and look like shiat

The center console, seatbelt retraction and brakes.
Its hard to get in the console because it is hinged in the back.
Seatbelts, especially the rear, don't retract well. I have young kids and they are always not retracting and hanging down and getting closed in the doors.
The front brakes warp and had to replace at 30k miles.

 

Just curious, why put down a truck you bought? If you didn't like it why buy it? Oh wait...the gun. I forgot someone had a gun to your head. If you don't like it fix it the way you want it, plain and simple.

 

Sometimes you don't notice things right away. Like on a test drive I never thought "I wonder if the vents still blow when I put it to floor only".

And that is just an example. There are always things you start to notice days later and think "well that's annoying".

 

Like when I test drove my truck, I assumed it had auto lights, I mean this is 2017 I remember when AC was an option now standard, but auto lights really if not a standard. I understand folding mirrors being an option but auto lights.. drop mic and walk away.

 

I’m kind of the opposite I don’t want my headlights come on automatically. Unless there is an option for off. I actually wish I could turn the running lights off sometimes.

 

That's very true about starting to notice things days later. There are things that "bug" me as with anyone else. I guess I see a difference between annoying or bugging and hating it. Hating is reserved for...ex's?

 

Yeah, nothing I listed is really a hate, just annoying. And also a "but why..." like why won't the vents close?

Now if I get the cam leak I'll probably hate it.

 

Yeah I don’t hate many things. I don’t even hate my ex’s. I do hate my neighbors. Fuck those guys. Go do your crack and meth somewhere else assholes. You can, before you start your truck apply emergency break one click, then insert key and start..

 

Interesting I’ll have to try that. I always use my emergency brake and start the truck before I release it. So I should release the parking break then click it one click, then start?

It’s not because I don’t like the way it looks with the lights on it’s more so if I ever want to be stealth when rolling up to my campsite. Or running from the cops whatever one you like LOL JK JK

 

It is not putting down the truck, just things that Toyota could have done better. Like any other truck brand, none of them a perfect because we all have different expectations and the choice we make come closest to what we like.

Are you telling us that your truck is the perfect vehicle and nothing could be improved? That is great, because you will save a lot of money since you don't have to change anything........I wish I was in your shoes.

 

Lol always has to be this guy. True statement though.
When I bought my truck in warm weather I didnt try the floor heat. Usually when a switch indicates only one option youre safe to assume that.
Same goes for the sticky wipers and poor wiper arm design.
Also the terrible sound quality in the stereo. Yes this could have been tested but until you try it with your own music and change all the settings to your liking you will never know.
Not even gonna get on the cam seal leak potential cause its not a problem yet.

I am not afraid to admit that I bought this truck on a shot gun purchase based off of reviews and owning another Toyota that has treated me well.
That said, complaining wont get me anywhere. Pay more money to make it how I want or pay more to get it to where Ill have positive equity for a trade in.
Not bashing Toyota just stating my thoughts in a thread meant for it.
Above all, the truck runs great, comfortable enough, is fairly capable stock and the power gives me a smile with every push of the skinny.

I completely agree there are alot of things Toyota could have done better and every mfg has it's flaws. In no way am I implying my truck or any truck is perfect. It's far from it. Can things be change to each person's liking? Most definitely. It's a personal preference I guess. Great input and discussion.

 

Idk tho...if my truck was Cement...Id probably say its perfect.

 

How long would it take, or ever, for this to drain the battery if like an iPad was hooked into it? Example, over night camping and the kids wanted to go into the truck to plug in their iPad to charge/watch a movie. So instead of turning on the key etc., would this deteriorate the batteries cells over a long enough time of pulling power when it is not being charged form the car naturally being on? Or should this be used for shorter instances like charging the phone while sitting at a McDonald's or something? Thanks!

Let us know if you figure out the window one, that would be nice to have.

 

Days...
Depends on battery obviously. A deep cycle would last a long long time from full charged. Best bet would be to have an isolated 2 battery system where you run down one battery and never worry about your starter battery.

 

Several days as Albertaundra indicated. I don't know what the power draw is for an iPad or cell phone but it has to be very small. I've lost contact with the Toyota mechanic who helped me with the window relay on my 2006 or I would ask him for help again. I 'll figure it out at some point and post here...

I also just saw the post below his original post referencing about being careful to leaving things plugged in/charging overnight.

 

Mine is just a SR5 no LED light strip. Just the amber’s

 

Gotcha, I'm still new to the platform so dont know all the differences. I do agree its a nice option to have my old car didn't but I still havent had to turn them off for any reason yet.
