I just had a pair of Bilstein 5100s put on the front (only) by a local shop. I asked them beforehand to set them to 2.5”. When I picked it up, I asked the sales guy if they were set to max (2.5), and his response was basically “uh...yeah, sure.” When I got home, I measured on level ground. The result is about a half inch shorter than I expected. Also, I can tell the truck isn’t quite level. Can anyone tell by the pics what my setting is? I would think I should be able to see more of the ring notches if it is on max.

If it’s not the right setting, would you bother making them redo the install for half an inch?

Average stock height on passenger side from center of hub to the fender is 21.8”. Just measure and see how much it went up.

Thanks. Looks like I’m on the middle setting- not what I asked for. Getting bigger tires tomorrow. Guess I’ll just have to see how they fit before deciding if I want to do battle with these guys over it . I understand changing the setting is basically installing them all over again.

Were the two Picts of different sides (driver and passenger)? There are 3 slots on the 5100's. One slot is visible in one of the Picts and it looks like this is set to the middle. If it were on the top setting you would see two slots. I can't see any slots on the other pict so it looks like this one is on the bottom setting.

Agree with @Kwikfish, you should get what you paid for. And if they are at different settings then this should be fixed.

At the top setting the front will likely be slightly higher than the back.

Bilstein advertises 2.28 or so on the top setting. From your first picture I only see one groove, so you might be on the middle. That would be about 1/2" shorter than you expected. I got about 2.125 on the top setting. If you paid for it, then sure make them fix it. Unless your new tires fit OK then it's up to you how much time is worth the hassle.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the pics are of different sides. Would they set them differently due to weight differences between D side P side (like fuel tank, etc)?

I'm happy with the way it looks with the new tires. With more reading, apparently a lot of folks are happy with the middle setting. At least if I haul the in-laws camper, it won't be nose-up.

No, they should not be on different setting and if that is the case then you NEED to go back and make it right. However, I would be scared shitless to let someone dumb enough to do that touch my vehicle again.

Ok, mystery solved. I got a much better view from underneath the truck. I can confirm both shocks are on the middle setting, which is something like 1.8" I think. The view of the rings is obscured on one side for whatever reason. It's not what I asked, but it's sure not as stupid as being set differently. Thanks for the advice and scaring me into looking into it more closely.

Thanks man! Pleased doesn't begin to describe it. This is my first really nice vehicle.

Also, to me it looks level. You may have been nose high at the highest setting and IMO that is a bad look.

Truck looks great. Glad that they set both sides the same. I went with the middle setting and then added a coachbuilder shim to each side and this gave me 2" inches. If you decide to go a little higher in the future you can add a shim and would not need to disassemble each shock to change the clip to the top setting.

Yup. They did you a favor with their incompetence. Would’ve been nose high on top setting. Looks great.

I know...it's actually kinda odd. It was not level yesterday with he stock wheels/tires (I measured), but it does at least look level with the 34's (haven't measured yet). My wife can back me up on that too. Either way, looks fine to me and I hear the ride is a little stiffer on the stop setting so I'm good.

Top picture looks to be top setting. Second picture is middle or top if it's the same as the other side. Mine are on the top setting and look like your first picture.

Looks good, leave it. 34's are badass. I was scared and went with 33's. I have 5100's on middle setting, which seems to be most popular, with 2 Coachbuilder shims on each side. I got exactly 2.5 inches front lift, from 36" in front stock to 38.5". I say RUN IT!!!!!!!!!
