What about the guy filming it? Maybe he can distract it, but the flip side is the snake may still bite out of fear. Eastern Diamondbacks are one of the two most deadliest snakes.

not sure how far they are from civilization, or if they have cellphone reception, etc. If so, I'd definitely be calling for help.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    Two things...
1.) The minute I saw it beside me, I would have made the move he did at the end and got the fuck up with some quickness.
2.) If it did get that close and me not move, the snake would have left pretty quick, as soon as I shit my pants.

I would be yelling at the dude behind the camera to do something. If I was solo, I would probably get bit as I attempted to get up and run.

I used to talk about this in WFR/WT training... Apparently it's extremely common although I haven't ever run across it. Make extremely slow movements and use a rudimentary snake hook to remove. He basically did everything right outside of jumping up at the end. The camera man should have further removed the snake before he got up. Moving quickly is threatening and may further agitate a snake causing it to strike in a defensive manner.

I would shit my pants. But not out of fear, out of defense. The same defense mechanism as a skunk or an octopus. The smell would scare it off. Or it would pity me and leave out of shame.

After it would eventually leave I would shit myself again out of fear.

I would have taken the time to actually talk to the snake. That’s the problem with the world today, we all judge without making the effort to talk things out. Looks like the snake is just lonely and looking for a friend. He’s even trying to lighten the mood by showing off his sweet tail rattle.

Update: I put the hissing into google translate. It’s saying “Move one inch and I’ll murder your face. Give me your wallet and car keys.”

Turns out the snake is a total prick. Disregard my original statement.

If he would have been bit in the "D" the camera man would have had to suck the venom out.
If I'm in the wild with one of you and you get bit . . . you're pretty much a gonner.

some of the responses were very funny, I would have just held still and let him crawl away. I learned a lot about rattle snake behavior when I was doing unexploded ordinance removal at the Rocky Mtn Arsenal before they opened it to the public. Everything I was told by the 'experts' eventually was disproven each time I encountered a rattle snake out there. Not trying to be a tough guy but growing up in Florida exposes you to a LOT of venomous and non-venomous snakes if you are active outdoors and I am not afraid of them.

Guys in his age bracket are bitten by venomous snakes more than any other age group, gee I wonder why??? :)

All sorts of fuck NO right there. I probably would’ve sat there like a statue until it left.
I don’t like snakes at all. They are really cool and majestic, way the fuck over there! And I can deal with wild animals, dogs, cats, children, most reptiles, but hell to the fuck no to snakes.

I seriously about jumped out of my skin when that thing moved.

I’ve never encountered a rattlesnake but I decided long ago the first one I ever see I’m going to kill it and take his rattle. I’ve had a bunch of pet snakes so I’ve got this false confidence that I can handle any snake. Plus, I think I have ninja-like reflexes which I really don’t.

Oh it’s happening. But it’s more to get its rattle than to prove my manhood or anything. So if I have my gun or my truck with me, it’s going to get shot or run over. If I have just a stick and knife... it’s definitely gonna get recorded.

I'm still trying to get my underwear, pants and seat cushion out of my butthole.

I don't like snakes, don't even like seeing them at the zoo.

If one got that close to me, let alone on my lap, I'd would do my best to stay calm, cool and collected. With my luck, that snake would curl up on my lap for warmth and I'd die in the woods from exposure.

My dad use to hunt them as well in Eastern Washington ....my brother and I would go fishing all day , and my dad would meet us at camp in the afternoon. ...trout and rattlesnake for dinner....and it does taste somewhat like chicken
