Only 1 tundra guy in our offroad group has lockers, nobody has an lsd. The 1 guy with lockers hasn't used them since installing them. For having big heavy tundras we wheel them pretty hard... after the wheeling I've done in snow, dirt, mud, sand etc when I finally do gears I'm not doing lockers or an auburn LSD because I just don't see the need. I've yet to find myself in a situation where they would've made the difference (rock crawling aside, but nobody is doing any "real" crawling in a tundra).

This old video is still good. Beginning around minute 13, they make 3 runs up hells revenge at Moab. Truck is a completely stock pro with the original Michelin tires.

I originally thought I’d need a locker but decided to wait until I got into some grief with traction loss. It hasn’t happened yet. Why fix something that ain’t broke? The Tundra system works really well.

Curious how you define “real rock crawling”

Certainly the crappy approach and departure angles make lots of stuff inassessable and the long wheel base makes it easy to high-center but for a full size pick up truck it does okay

Ie stuff you could never tackle in a tundra regardless of lockers and tires simply because the wheel base is too big

Thank God for them sliders though. You got full skids front to back? Next looks like some bumpers are in order for you. I said it before and I’ll say it again I love your wife’s truck.

Yeah they totally would. That’s about as burly as we’re likely to get, and it’s not really even that hardcore. The approach, break over and departure angles were stupid easy.

Still no sliders yet. It’s a double edged sword with sliders - as soon as you install them, you have 2-3” less clearance than you did before and so you start hitting them on stuff, making you think ‘fuck, sure glad I got these sliders,’ when in fact you might have just rolled right past that obstacle without them if you still had the clearance.

That said, a set of high and tight sliders is on our list. Because you don’t need them until you do.

And we just have the RCI front skid in steel. We may go aluminum underbody eventually.

I just wish I’d gotten the sliders BEFORE i did the damage.

OK I swore I could see them in the video. But I looked again. You banged it pretty good.
I know sliders hang down but so does the frame. I like how you guys aren’t afraid to use it.

Only thing I hate about my sliders is the crazy amount of rust that keeps building up where brush and rock chewed off the paint. I’ve repainted them 2x but they’re covered in rust now

Because it wouldn’t make that big of a difference, it would wear over time esp with bigger tires, and you can’t rebuild it? Yea seems like a no brainer over a locker or sticking with Toyota traction control which is pretty dang capable...

ARB would be awesome and Toyotas system does work well but also has its limitations. Bigger tires makes everything wear faster.

stock does have limitations. But there’s very few guys ever putting themselves in stickier situations or driving a tundra harder than the guys I wheel with... and none of us have thought “dang I wish we had an lsd right now”

I have seen some pics and a couple short videos with you guy's wheeling awesome stuff. And You are correct I don't along with most others wheel as hard as you guy's do. But I have already found where the Tundra limit is with out beating it harder then I choose to I am still making payments. Lol

Lol the photos and vids are the more mellow stuff. When the trails are more technical we’re busy spotting and trying to get through and not worried about taking pics or vids. There’s been some hairy stuff we’ve got through (as hairy as you can get in a huge tundra). Like I said the Toyota system works pretty dang well and is more than enough for 98% of guys out there

How difficult is the Auburn to install? Is the a lot of setting it up, or is it more plug and play?

    Ouch. That’s a bummer.

Any work inside the third member should be done by a reputable axle and gear shop. It’s like Wu-Tang Clan - ain’t nothin to fuck with. I don’t consider an lsd or locker something I would do in my driveway, and I’d rebuild a transmission there if I needed to. There’s some kinda Voodoo black magic involved in setting the lashing and stuff.

I want to revisit this issue...Cost? No frigging way...Purely demand...The average Tunny buyers are not even mall crawler category....Mom jeaners that want nannies to run the show...IMHO...
