After scrolling through 27 pages it's to my disbelief that there's not a coffee thread. Not counting that starbucks post:yawn:.

1- I would like to find out what coffee brands everyone likes.
2- What type and brand of coffee maker your using
3- How do you store your coffee
4- What's your go to method, standard brew or k-cups
5- Do you buy already ground or do you prefer to grind yourself, and if so what type of grinder are you using.
    So let's go!:mudding:
One thing that jump started me to start this thread was the brand of coffee i purchased last time out shopping. The brand was called Fleetwood. I purchased the medium roast already ground. This coffee is horrible and wasted $7 on it. I'm always willing to try different brands, but i do not recommend this one, just my opinion of course.

My coffee maker is a Hamilton Beach multi brew station. You can brew full 12 cups for when family and friends are in or choose to do single cup with permanent filter. I also have the option of using k-cups. This is not a Bunn or High end , but works great.

My favorite brand or type is Kona coffee, full Kona not the blended type. I also like the brands Gevalia and Peet's.

I decided to do some research one day about coffee in general, brewing, storing, and grinding. I was doing it all wrong:(. I use to store my coffee in the fridge, that's a big no. I would use regular tap water, better to use filtered or bottled, who knew:smack:. I have a coffee mil, but it's your baseline grinder. If you grind your coffee @ home a professional grinder will do you good.

So let's here from you coffee Pro's . One last note, i will say the best cup of coffee i ever had was done on a old percolater my buddy had. Amazazazing!

So I usually get death wish coffee. I have a grinder that I grind the beans with, just tastes better this way. I also have a fresh saver jar that I use to store the extra coffee. I have the Hamilton beach brew station which I love.

Yeah Nate i need to spend the money on a good grinder, coffee is way better that way. I will look into Death Wish coffee, seems it's a bold flavor, haha. I need a better storage place for my coffee also. Just have it in a tuppeware container. Thanks for the post

Oh yeah Death Wish is def a bold blend for sure. The fresh saver pushes all the air out when you put the cap on it. It is pretty solid and was about $20 or so.

Beans: Anything well-roasted and without artificial flavor. I grind my own.
Brew Method: French Press, Fresh ground coffee, and hot water - 203 degrees, ideally.
FooFoo Additives: None. Drink it black.

French press is the way to go. Takes more work, longer wait, more cleanup, but it's worth it. Living in a smaller town, we only have access to the mainstream brands. I stick with Starbucks Pike Place pre-ground. Sometimes I'll get whole bean and grind it myself. I have a keurig for those days when I'm lazy.

On camping trips I do drip coffee because the cleanup is easier. I use paper filters and these: https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Silicon...spons&keywords=drip+coffee+cone+camping&psc=1

I roast my own beans , buy them green ,roast them then grind them as needed . I use a pour over Chemex or a french press . Its easier than you think and cheaper as well.

You're NOT stuck. It's easy to find a supplier online that will provide freshly roasted, organic, fair-trade coffee beans delivered to your doorstep. SB PP is ok, but I wouldn't want that to be my only option.

I guess I should have said stuck if I'm only spending $10/bag. I've ordered online before, but shipping always made the price 2x. I might have to start buying in bulk.

I brew in a press or in a pour over if I have time. Typically freshly roasted, 100% organic, darker roasts. The coffee purists will tell you light roast is where it's at, but I like the oils that come out of the darker roasts. Makes for a thicker, heavier brew. I grind my beans at home, right before I brew the coffee. This allows for the freshest coffee. image.jpg
And then I'll sit at the east facing window and enjoy the morning sun.

Folgers crystals, the best part of waking up...brewed in a $15 percolator is what I use. I have tried the kuereg thing which was too expensive for me. I prefer percolator over other ways to brew. I also have a regular coffee maker I'll use now and then.

I grind each morning using a burr vs blade grinder which tend to get hot and affect bean taste. Also with this burr grinder I can go from fine to coarse grinds depending if I use our $10 Mr Coffee pot or Bodum French press (which I don’t use as much as I should).

Work day coffee for us is the cheap Kirkland brand Colombian stuff from Costco. We use a Krups drip machine for that. Machine is programmable so coffee is done when I stumble into the kitchen in the morning, it tastes good enough and gets the caffeine into the bloodstream to bring my people tolerance level up.

On weekends we drink various different types of coffee. Kicking Horse, Saltspring etc. I have an AeroPress for when I'm feeling snobby. I do want a French press too though.

Weekend coffee is always bought whole bean and we grind it with a burr grinder.

Where to start....I drink a lot of coffee and usually my first cup is on an empty stomach. The acidity would make my stomach hurt so about 5 years ago i started making cold brew coffee.
I have a couple different brewers for cold brew. I use the filtron to make concentrate (too strong to drink straight, so you dilute it 1:1 with water)
and i have a Yama tower for a small batch.
As for coffee, the filtron uses a pound of coffee for 64oz of concentrate so i usually go with costco columbian (or whatever the seasonal dark roast is). I use a cuisinart conical burr grider (the ninja blade ones are garbage). They are pricey but for something that you need to control the size of the grind, its worth it.
We also have a Nespresso machine. Its like the k-cup but of espresso. Each pod costs about 60-70 cents and you have to order them unless you are near a bloomingdales. The coffee is amazing!

Good call on the post, Ron! I LOVE a good cup of coffee. It needs to be dark, super hot but not scalded, and my must-have foo-foo add-in is real/regular half n half. Out in the world, Peet's is my favourite Barista coffee (latte). Years ago we switched to Trader Joe's Dark at home. It is very affordable at $4.99 for 13 oz., whole beans, but we get it because we like the taste better than any other.

I prefer a good percolator or French Press but that's a bunch of work for 1 cup each, and we'll usually want another. So usually we use an old Proctor-Silex Morning Maker that a coworker gave me when she bought a new one... 15 years ago. :anonymous: We run distilled white vinegar through to clean it now and then. I tend to keep things that work 'til they don't (and now have all Toyotas, see).

I did buy a Capresso conical burr grinder though. We believe it's improved the taste over the bladed grinder (that I moved to work. You know, 'cause it still works.)
Aw, Man! When we've done that, the effort pays off! I love a proper cup of Italian roast brewed in a stove top percolator. That's the way my MIL always made it, and this is usually how we brew when car camping. Only problem is, it's a bit time-consuming so, when more than 2 of us want coffee at the same time, we rely on drip brew.
My parents bring back green beans from Mexico, and do this. They swear they taste best.

I have the Techni Vorm, "Mocca Master" that we use daily to brew. It runs the water through heated copper coils that brings it to optimal temp of 203* (as Tundra Tex has stated). Use whole beans from who ever, ground fresh each morning. On the weekends I may do the " pour over" method. Problem with that is, I like to have several cups and this method is time consuming.

Buy it in beans and grind. Used in a standard drip coffee maker.
