I have BFG AT KO2 on my truck. When I picked up my truck from Town Fair Tire I noticed one of my tires not being balanced. Life being crazy I didn't get to it until today. I went to the Toyota dealership to have them "Road Forced" balanced and was told one of my tires is defective and will never balance out and needs to be replaced.
Last time I got the BFG AT was on my 09 F-250, I had the same problem. It took swapping the tire 3 times before it balanced out and only "Road force" could get it right. Am I the only one who has this issue with quality? Once they get them balanced, I love them but this is really getting old.

My buddy owns an auto shop and sells tires. He hates BFG ATs because he says he has to go through so many just to get a set he can get balanced. And then, he says they won't stay balanced and owners keep coming back to get them rebalanced. He discourages every one he can from buying them. He runs Goodyear Duratracs, as I do.

Town Fair tire gives you 30 days to return tires if you dont like them, for any reason! Do they not?

Town Fair is cool about it. The manager, " BFG AT are great tires we just have to keep swapping until wee can find 4 that are round". I was so close to going with the Goodyear Duratracs but I loved my BFGs after they tapped them out before. I thought it was a batch problem with the F250. Now I am thinking its a BFG thing... Its all the time that it takes to keep going back again and again; also the $125 each time getting the tires Road Force Balanced time and again.

No-one ever mentioned this problem that I have read. If the new three are not perfect, I think I will go to the Good Years.

Not a BFG fan myself either, the Duratrac on the other hand has been flawless for us for 2 1/2yrs and 25k miles. Still easily 1/2 tread too.

I bought Michelins when I replaced my original BFG's and have no regrets so far, they ride better and much quieter! I will keep you posted on how well they wear. And I bought my Michelins at Town Fair and found they were the best price in my area, and included front end alignment and rotations every 5000 miles!

Is this problem just with AT KO2's or is it a problem with BFGs in general?

I really liked the reviews of AT KO2 when it first came out. I wanted to get one, but they didn't have the size I wanted. So I went with Nitto Trail Grappler. I am glad I did, since it has been flawless so far.

My issues have been with the AT KO2s. I was in a co-workers truck today, a Dodge Long Horn 1500 that can't be more then 2 years old. He has the BFG AT KO2s and when we were going 60 Ish on the highway I could feel a slight shake. I didn't say anything, didn't ask, and he didn't mention anything. It is just an observation.

One of my co-workers when through the same bs with two different set of BFG A/T's trying to get a decent balance that would last 90 days.. Went to Cooper Discoverer A/T's. No issues. KO'2's look decent and a lot have been sold, but not on my list for replacement tires. Actually nothing BFG is on my list.

Yes, I have Nitto Trail Grappler. Here is a picture (my sig picture doesn't show it very well). The tires hum a bit, but not obnoxiously. Very quiet for MT tires. Ride is very smooth.

I have the KO2 on now and love them. Had one balancing is sure right away and brought it back to the tire shop 1x but it wasn't the tires out of balance it was the rims that wouldn't balance right. No shakes or anything now.
Also had duratracs on my last pickup 2011 1/2 ton chevy but after about 20-30k miles they started getting quite noisy on the highways. Nothing close to how quiet they were when they were new.

Three new BFG AT KO2 were put on the truck today. Will be Road Force balancing on Thursday next week. Fingers crossed.

I haven't done much research into this potential issue, but my own KO2s have worked out fine so far. I've only had them a thousand miles though.

I have been running the BFG AT KO2 for about a month now. 3500 kilometers with no problems so far. Never heard about a balancing problem before now. Will be keeping a close eye on them. Very happy with no road noise and superb traction.

Currently fighting the same battle with these tires and BFG for my 2013 Silverado. I've had the purchased set of KO2s rebalanced, rebalanced again with roadforce balancing, then had a warranty replacement set mounted and balanced, still vibrating on highway. Truck was smooth as can be on highway with previous tires. I'm now working on going to a different dealer to get another warranty replacment, but they are making me pay out of pocket for a 2nd set, wait for tires to be sent back to BFG, then I will be reimbursed if BFG 'finds the Issue'.

Odd. I worked at Discount Tire down in Pearland, TX for over 3 years. I can't say I ever had issues balancing the new BFG A/T KO2s. I even bought a set of 305/65R18 and slapped em on my 08 Silverado. Held up as they should and rotated and rebalanced them every oil change. Sorry to hear you had such a terrible time with em!

    3500 km = 2187.5 miles for my southern Tundra brothers ( 1 mile = 1.6 kilometres)
The tires I was referring to have 25000 miles on them now and are showing hardly any wear and still grab.

350k on BFG 305/65/18 between 07/11 Tundras and loved them.

However, buddy just bought a new SR5 CM with those tires and can't get them balanced/to ride good.

A little of this and a little of that.
Thank you brothers for the feedback. BFG KO2's were one of 3 tires I'm about to buy for my truck. Helped narrow my decision down, thanks again and sorry for your balancing issues.

I must have gotten lucky. My KO2's balanced fine and are holding up well. Best tire I've had in the last 40 years.

Guess I got lucky too. Mine have balanced initially and after one rotation at 5k miles. Tons of meat left and no shaking at 65-75 mph.
    I'll probably get KO2s again.

I just got my new set put on last week. Balanced no problem. Hopefully everything keeps true.
