That's what one would expect... Which side of yours was leaking?

Probably just letting it go by since most people don’t even notice it cheaper to fix them case by case basis than have a couple billion dollar recall it won’t be turned into a recall until someone files a lawsuit

Ha, the side they refuse to do for me. I love it, such a crap feeling knowing this could have been solved for good and now I just have to wait for the driver side to fail.

I would rather people know, I will never recommend a Tundra to a friend after this, I wouldn't want someone to have to deal with this failure/repair. I work on a lot of construction sites, got so much crap when I traded my Chevy for a Toyota...guess they were right.

Ha I get that, I talked this truck up so much to my buddies. Now its in the shop for the biggest repair I have ever had completed on a vehicle...hell even my buddies Ram didn't need extensive work like this. If mine was just a seep I would have not even bothered and just rolled on, but mine was actively dripping onto the exhaust manifold and the smell was starting to come into the cab.

Well, son of a gun. 2015 4.6 with 43k miles. Only the drivers side seems to be leaking.

Hard to tell from that picture, you would be the first 4.6 I have heard of with it though.

I still say the robot applying sealant theory is what Toyota feeds us so they don't look bad. I think this has to do more with how much the cam tower is being torqued by the engine which allows slight movement at that seal and causes it to fail.

I also don't understand how its not a recall, plenty of other manufacturers have had recalls for oil dripping onto the exhaust.[/QUOTE]
I have never been able to set oil on fire.........unless it's old and black, which is caused by blow by which contains fuel, therefore it is flammable. (or an old car like my Datsun, carbureted and burns rich.) Maybe they didn't change their oil. A seal can go bad 2 ways, 1, it is defective itself, 2, the metal it is installed is defective. Such as out of round, mismatched bore lines, the part spinning inside is defective such as a burr or groove, hence that's why they make protector sleeves for crankshaft pulleys when reinstalling a used one, because seal has worn a groove in it. (most common on domestic vehicles.)

Yep that's it, sorry for your luck, not something one wants to find on there truck. Yours is the first 4.6 I have heard of with the issue, I thought these were escaping the cam tower issue. Anything on your passenger side?

Starting to notice from the info members are posting that it seems like the passenger side leaks at a lower mileage like 25k and under, the driver side seems to leak at like 40k+ miles.

Nothing I can see on the passenger side. I’m hoping I can convince them to do both at once.

Got a call at 10am that my truck is done And has been road tested. Will see what the repair looks like once I pick it up. Now onto 20k more miles And having the driverside fail......

The guy at the counter was like “I see you’re in a Tundra, would you be ok with a sedan?” My response was hell yeah I’ll take the gas savings for the next couple days. They gave me an 18 with 70 miles on it.

When my 2015 Tacoma was in the body shop because the hood came apart. The inner support came unglued from the hood skin and caused it to shake at highway speed. They gave me a 2016 TRD Sport DCLB Tacoma with the tech package for a week.

My dealer is one of the better ones and that’s why I’m a repeat customer.

You and me both, I'm still shocked they wouldn't even let me pay for it. I mean it was already tore down we were talking like another 2hrs labor as @trdlife informed me. Now if the driverside leaks it has to all come apart again, jeez. Maybe the dealer is playing games with Toyota, @trdlife said they drastically cut down there repair time for this issue, maybe the dealers response is to stick it to Toyota. Who knows, I even called corporate to state my case in having the driverside done and I got a no from them as well. Maybe they don't want to be liable if the disassemble the driverside and something breaks?

If it does leak I will just trade off the truck, its unfortunate as I really like but I'm not going to have my engine torn down twice. Its a bummer I can't even have piece of mind after the repair...I will be waiting for the driverside to fail. Seems that's the more common side from what I see posted.

@Upgrayedd glad to see you were able to get both sides completed!

They gave me a ram for a loaner, wanted to give me a sedan at first but I wasn't going to be able to haul my tools and ladders for work.

When they gave me the Tacoma I had to sign a form stating I wouldn’t put anything in the bed, and if I scratched the bed I would be on the hook for a possible replacement plastic bed tub.

So when I went to fill up my gas can at the station for the lawn mower I put it in the back seat and seatbelted it in place. lol

Ha that's crazy. This dealer doesn't use Toyota cars for rentals. They use the enterprise rental car place next door.

20180306_162555.jpg Back in my baby! Raining right now so didn't have a change tho check under the hood. Service advisor was great, told me if I saw anything didn't like to bring it back. Took care of my state inspection I had due this month for me as well while it was in there.

Time will tell for the rest!

This is how it went for me too. They balked when I insisted on a truck though, I told them it was a requirement, note that trailer in the lot?
