windshield leak

2003 tundra leaking inside cab at top of the windshield.Is there replacement trim?Any special tools needed?

No I have not replaced the windshield.It had a slight leak and I was putting off checking it out.Now it's much worse,and I broke my leg,so I can not get a good look on the outside.I'm thinking dryrot?Is there trim that maybe might be the cause?

 

You said the leak is from the top of the windshield? Is it from a corner or in the middle? Water could be running down the rain gutters and through the weather stripping.

 

It is worse right in the middle, above the rear view mirror at the headliner.Sorry I should have explained better.Last week it rained a lot and the headliner between the dome light switch ect. on the ceiling and the windshield was dripping pretty steady.It's suppose to start rain and snow tonight,I'll try to get pic's.Thank You

 

Are you in the north east? I hope it’s just the weather stripping and not a rust hole in your roof.

 

No...I'm in the Midwest....It's a Texas -Okie Truck.

 

I'm guessing you need a new windshield seal, which unfortunately requires removing and reinstalling the glass.

Windshields are held in with a urethane adhesive. The trim you see on the outside is just cosmetic.
There are really only 4 possibilities.

In order of severity there are 4 options.
1. New windshield install issue, installer did not have a clean urethane joint in the top center.
Solution - Pump urethane into the hole where the leak is coming from.

(From here on this is potentially a safety issue)
2. Urethane not adhering to the windshield. Installer did not prep the windshield correctly.
Solution - Remove windshield and reinstall. *may require a new windshield

3. Rust issue, rusted out under the urethane bead. **Based on your description this would be my guess.
Solution - Remove the windshield, sand the rust, prime bare metal, and install new windshield. ***Probably require a new windshield.

4. Rust issue (severe) _ Pinch weld has deteriorated to the point no metal left to hold the windshield in place.
Solution - Remove the windshield, have body shop fix the pinch weld, install windshield.

 

I have the same issue leaking in the same spot and I think my only cure is to replace the windshield. Now mine is all sandblasted so would be worth it for me.
