Travel tips to Patagonia?

A while ago, i was back at my mom's house in England and we we happened to watch both a BBC nature program about Patagonia and also the Top Gear Patagonia special too. Up until this point, we'd been considering doing an RV trip across america. Since my Dad died, I've been trying to do fun things with her when i get the chance. After seeing the Patagonia documentaries I think she really wants to up the ante and do some form of journey through patagonia to celebrate a significant birthday in a couple of years.

The American trip would have been simple to plan, but i'm lost when it comes to South America.

Anyone out there have any experience with something like this?

Tents are out - she says she's too old to camp
I'm guessing RV is out as the roads are questionable?
SUV & Hotels?
Anything we should avoid?
Anything we should go out of our way to see?

Probably... but for some reason, I trust this bunch of misfits despite the fact i get daily updates on just how insane most of you are.

 

My wife and I spent time in some very remote parts of Brazil, including the Amazon. We used a local travel agent with a connection to a Brazilian travel agency. No chance we would have been able to plan it on our own (and we usually plan our trips on our own, including international travel). There are a lot of reputable agencies that work on Patagonia - it’s so worth it.

 

are you driving down or flying then getting a vehicle and exploring?

 

oooh, driving would be good, not thought of that because it would take too long to get there and would need to go through sketchy places...

Default thought was to fly and rent something to go exploring

 

I've always wanted to go to Patagonia, but have not made it yet. In the landscape photography community, Patagonia is one of the crown jewels for landscape photography workshops. I would think visiting Torres del Paine National Park would be at the top of your list of things to do down there.

 

I want to say I’ve seen travel packages at REI for Patagonia. It might be worth checking out. I could be wrong though
