Severe bouncing on the highway

Hello all, I have a suspension issue. I am experiencing severe bouncing when on the hi way .usually the concrete this happens at speeds above 50 but is very dependent on the road. Any help on a fix or mod.
This my first Tundra and I love this truck. Formerly a chevy guy.
Please help.

There was TSB on this issue some time ago. Check with your local Toyota dealer to see if your truck is eligible. My local dealership checked mine and said there's no issue with bouncing (which I don't). I think DC is more likely to suffer from this than CM.

 

How many miles.on your truck? Did it always happen or just start recently? Still under warranty?

More than likely you have a tire that is out of round, or has developed separation. If no tire issue is found, I would check your shocks.

 

It could just be a resonance from the combination of wheelbase and the seams in the concrete sections. I get this in my Standard Cab on a particular section of concrete roadway every time.

 

Infamous "bed bounce". I only notice it on concrete sections at certain speeds. Definitely a resonance issue. My friend Amy noticed the same thing with her Crew Max on certain new concrete sections on I-25.

 

Ya, my '13 DC gets it on particular sections of concrete freeway. It used to be a lot worse when I was running bareback, but now that I have ~250 lbs permanently in/on the back of the truck (tonneau + gear box) it isn't much of an issue. I was behind a crap dodge a while back and he was getting it much worse than me.

I do recall reading back in late '13 that this was one of the issues Toyota was working to resolve with the '14 and going forward. They'd had too many customer complaints to ignore it.

 

Mine does it on certain sections of the 110 freeway from what I've noticed so far. I noticed it's worse now that I have bumped up the tire pressures. Sometimes it is so bad that it feels like I might drift into the next lane. I know how to drive so if it doesn't bother me too bad. Most of the time it's smooth as a Cadillac. I plan on putting a cap on the bed I'm sure this will eliminate most of it. I've been in other trucks with similar wheelbase and they do it also. My buddies SRT 10 ram DC does it horribly! Probably added that his wheels are 22 inch and suspension is stiff as F.

I notice it BAD on one section of concrete freeway in the city here. My truck bounces in the rear quite a bit around 45-60, get over that range and it seems to not be in the right frequency to upset the suspension. I also notice around 400-600 pounds in the bed makes it go away, though my trailer behind my truck(empty car trailer) will make it incredibly bad around 50mph

 

I just replaced all my shocks this past weekend after I noticed one of the front ones leaking. I'll have to try to pay attention the next time I hit the particular section of highway that my truck responds too.

Just to clarify what I feel I'm experiencing, I sometimes call it "jeeping", as it seems to me to be so closely wheelbase related. It's more of forward and back bucking sensation not unlike getting into the whoops at exactly the wrong speed, usually just a bit too slow. Can also be a result of inappropriate suspension/shock tuning for the terrain/condition or happening upon that resonant frequency, like exhaust drone.

 

Is there a fix if you change springs? I think the 3" Pro-Comp lift puts a preload on the stock springs making this worse. Will changing springs fix this?

 

I noticed this with my friends 2013 stock sr5 DC 6.5 ' bed. I have a 2014 sr DC 8' bed with 3/2 level from ready lift and my truck isn't as bad as his. May be the extra wheel base ? I do get on certain sections of hiways asphalt or concrete guess it depend on the pattern of bumbs verse wheels and speed. At one point I did loose some wheel weighs and that was very noticeable

 

I have factory shocks on and did not notice much difference In the ride with lift installed I may not understand how this actually works but from my understanding I don't believe you are preloading the shocks you are just moving them. If you hit a big bump or put to much weight in you can bottom them out easier with lift becuase you tire can Now go up further than it was designed for. They make laerger bump stops for that. If the were preloaded That would stimulate weight in the truck which would make it ride smoother. MY take on it. I may not be right

 

All stock suspension?

 

Yes still stock shocks. Never off road really so performance there wasn't an issue. Like a certain look and took that route . it's my work truck as well as family truck . too many things to spend money on these trucks!!! A differential spacer kit was installed to try to keep everything lined up .

 

Very annoying on concrete highways. No way this is normal. Issue is if I replace the springs to get rid of the spacer and replace the shocks it is likely Toyota voids my warranty.

 

Yep same shocks as Jason and mine does it as well on rough concrete at highway speeds.

 

After I installed coachbuilders shackles and polyurethane bushings, I stopped getting bed bounce.
