    Just curious...
Maybe it would also be interesting if you tell us about the environment your Toyota resides, i.e. Garaged or not, rural or city, etc.
    Any Toyota.
Mine is not garaged, and I live in a heavily wooded area. Squirrels everywhere, but I have a couple of squirrel chasing German Short hair pointers patrolling the back yard.

Park in the garage every night. Have had mice in the garage a few years in a row. Set traps and caught them within a few weeks. No damage to my truck at all from the mice.

Outside, for now, in the Santa Cruz foothills, rodents got the windshield washer hose on my last Tundra, turbo hose on my wife's VW and now I just found a nest on the top of my backhoe engine and the fuel gauge / tach aren't working. I'm gonna soak some cotton balls in peppermint oil and stuff 'em in the engine compartments, seems to work well.... just have to keep doing it periodically.
Kinda tough to have cats here. Coyotes, fox, bobcat and mountain lions have 'em on the menu. Bigger dogs fare well here but small dogs and cats disappear frequently.

None. Live in the city in SoCal. Park outside. There is a marsh 1/2 mile away. Lots of squirrels. Seen rats, possums, raccoons and coyotes around. Funny, no one has outdoor cats in my neighborhood. Folks have dogs. Wonder if the coyotes are making meals of any cats.

Parked outside in Baltimore City MD. Before the Tundra I owned a Sequoia and had the wires chewed off on the parking sensors. Hopefully it does not occur on my Tundra

1/26/2018 Rats chewed undermanifold cover, Radiator line and a number of other hoses and wires. Repairs cost $1500
2/1/2018 Got Tundra back from Dealership good as new
2/2/2018 12 hours later, same damage plus a fuel line.
Left tundra at dealership for 2 weeks as insurance asks WTF. Another $1500 repair.
2/20/2018 Got Tundra back from Dealership good as new. Pest Control killing rats for 3 weeks. Parking Tundra a block away from home.
2/23/2018 Parked Tundra in driveway for 10 minutes to load gear for weekend found new rat turds on manifold cover !#@$^@$##$%^!
Currently - 2 Rat traps loaded to bear on manifold cover. I think they are nesting somewhere in fenders, side panels somewhere.
Anyone have advice or where to look would be appreciated.

We live in the woods ,so mice are abundant . Had them in the heater fan of our RAV4 ,and Titan .
The one in the Titan got ground up and was a pleasure to clean up . I’ve found that buying mcormicks (sp) ground peppermint in the jar then adding either peppermint ,or spearmint oil to it keeps them away . Just put the mixture in a sock or small cloth sack . Put one in the truck ,one in the engine compartment . Needs to be refreshed every couple of weeks .

Even living in suburban so cal with Tundra in garage, rats chewed on the foam underneath the manifold cover. Baited with some peanut butter and a chunk of butterfinger. Lights out for this guy and many more of his friends that were introduced to the business end of a Gamo20171011_192027.jpg

FYI, and before you pay out of pocket. Most insurance companies cover damage no differently than hitting a deer. No fault

Truck is garaged, and I've had plenty of mice in the garage. They build their nest in the truck and the wife's VW Beetle, but have never chewed the wires (not that I've noticed, anyway:eek:). Presently replacing the three door bottom seals with "rodent proof" seals to help in keeping them out. I've also blocked their entrance to the cowl area of my truck with 1/4" wire screening. That has prevented their nest-building in the area. I haven't figured out how to keep them out of my wife's VW cowling, so I just check it periodically.

    Flux capacitor!
I have a client with a Nisan Titan truck and he had rodent damage to his one week old titan. So he got a loaner titan and then got damage to it as well at a different location. So after some research he found the new titans and other brands of vehicles they have started using soy based materials to insulate the main wiring harness. This was done to keep the vehicles more green. Unfortunately they have now given rodents a tasty food source by doing so. I'm not sure if Toyota has any soy based products on the Tundra.

Oh wow, that is pretty bad. I had similar damage aswell. I went to the car wash and blasted everything out. I removed all of the soy foam and put two bags of moth balls under the hood. They have not been back since.

Check inside your engine air filter box(Under the filter). Cabin air filter is a good spot for them also.

Had rodent eat AC Drip line on my 4Runner, all the way up to firewall padding, ate big hole in firewall padding, chewed through rubber grommet where AC drip line came through firewall, entered vehicle. Saw chew marks at Fog light wiring passenger side lower bumper as well.

Out Highlander had entry, still unknown, ate headliner around rear roof AC vents on both sides. Assume it came in somewhere around Cabin intake.
