Took my truck in to Toyota for the first oil change. Next day before starting I check the oil. Its overfilled by a little.
Should I worry and complain?

 

Run it for a few minutes (or up to full temp), shut it off. Let it sit for a few minutes and check it again.

 

Transmission fluid question. Toyota says the fluid should be good for 100k. However, the local shop installing my suspension did a look over the vehicle and are recommending the transmission fluid be replaced. In the photo they provided me, the fluid is looking very dark. Not sure who I should believe, what would you recommend?

Transmission fluid (and filter) changes are high profit items. Many shops recommend a fluid change and transmission flush any time they think they can sucker you into it. A friend's wife took her car in for an oil change and they talked her into a flush and fluid change. There were no issues with the transmission before that, but the transmission failed a couple of months later. A mechanic friend said that the flush is often done wrong, and even when done right can dislodge something that will screw up the valve body. Does your transmission have a dipstick? Mine doesn't. I'd take it to the dealer and let them check it before I'd trust a few drops in a dirty display block.

 

What year truck? Assuming u are talking about w/s fluid. I tyically won't recommend it until after 60k. Somewhere between 60 and 90k I'd do it. Make sure to use Toyota fluid too

 

I have a question about the front sonar in the Toyota emblem. I am going to be buying my tundra in the near future and I would like to add a ranch hand full replacement bump because I work shift work and call outs. I see a lot of deer here in Sputheast Pa and threw the pine barrens in NJ. The dealer said that I can turn off the lane assist and sonar. Am I going to be able to add this accessory?

 

Thank you for all the responses. I've got a 2015 Tundra and I don't believe it has a dip stick for the transmission fluid. I already have an appointment for the 60k service at my dealership tomorrow and have spoke with my advisor. I will have Toyota look at the transmission fluid and will likely have it replaced by Toyota no matter what they think since I am already there and am now paranoid about it. When everything is warm I get a hard downshift from 6th to 5th when slowly decelerating between 45 and 38 mph. The shop I had the suspension work done appears to have done a great job with the suspension from what I saw when climbing under the vehicle this afternoon after I got home. However, I am a little more skeptical now about the other shop as they would have charged $70 more than what Toyota charges. Thank you again, you have put my mind a little more at ease.

 

This is a loaded question. I'm assuming your talking about the radar sensor behind the Toyota symbol on the grill used for precollision? If so, I am not totally sure u can turn that off... something is telling me u can not...


Now the sonar sensors in the bumper and Rea r bumper for parking assist can be shut off

U are correct u don't have a dip stick. They can't check I either without doing the service. Every 60-90k.

 

I'm at 86K +.....Guess it's time..

 

Do you think 2018 Optitron Gauge swap in 2014+ Tundra's is possible? Like you could in 2007 to 2013 trucks

 

Doubt it. They have rcta lights and other systems that the ones dont... who knows til u try tho

My truck wanted to do an update this weekend so I had it updating driving in town down the road. During the validation or install, I can't remember which one, a loud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep sounded and the dash display was flashing a red screen that said break! I slowed down to 30 or so and it finished the installation with no more issues. Has anyone else seen this or now why it did that?

On my '18 limited crewmax My lane departure no longer works even though it's turned on with sensitivity set as high as can be.

Anyone else have the problem?
As an fyi I got the recall notice a few weeks ago and just had the software update.
Previously my adaptive cruise would turn off due to snowing sleet conditions. So far since the update it's been working but the lane departure is not.
I actually kinda doubt all aspects of the pre-collision system are working but I cant prove it without running into something.
So to stick to facts for sure my lane departure has stopped working.
Anyone else (And Toyota mechanic) experience this?

Will an integrated nav unit from a newer Tundra fit in a 2015 without modifications? Is it plug and play? Would I need an antenna for the GPS? Thanks.

 

hey lotsoftoys hope your killing it at the dealer. flagging hours. my 2017 tundra 5.7 has a 3/1 inch lift kit and I went with the black trd 18 in wheels with bigger tires. I keep reading about changing the gears in the rear end to fix any slop in the diff. what do you think. I'm a tech to but for vw. thanks bro

 

Just went to school and they did mention they have heard of the pre collision sensing objets off the road and interpreting them as cars... any chance it's happening on the same stretch of highway?

How big of tires? I'd say 35s or less your fine. I've driven lots of them on 35s and they drive just fine. Maybe if you towed and wanted some get up and go back bUT the newer trucks are geared pretty well imo

Took it in today and they said the cause was the Millimeter Wave Sensor misalignment readings were not in spec. They did a Beam Axis adjustment to get it back in spec. Hopefully it won't go off again.

They said I was the 4th person this week with this issue.

 

I try not to throw useless comments out there, but...I never thought I hear "Millimeter Wave Sensor" or "Beam Axis adjustment" outside of a sci-fi movie, let alone in reference to a truck. Damn, I guess I AM old.

 

It's all Sci-fi to me too but that's what the printout says. Next thing will be having to redirect the 1.21 gigiwatts
