Yes sir, I agree the company I work for shut down 3 coal plants this year and I have a feeling they’re going to shut down another old one next year. We’re still very new so we’re safe for the time being. Also helps that we own the mine, railroad and plants so we’re extremely competitive on price.

Enjoy the great pay and the youth. You’ll be 50 in a blink of an eye.

I started at 27 years old. I did buy 9 years of service credit so I could retire a little early and closer to the other half. She works for the same organization, and will retire at 50-52 years old, since she is a bit younger than I am.

We don’t have retirement, only a 401k and a boot kick to the ass. I’ll probably die before I can retire at this place.

    Oh fuck that. Resume time.
I guess the good thing is you can invest your own money the way you want.

My employer doesn’t do 401k matching, and that sucks enough for me to not encourage people to apply.

They match up to 6%, but that’s not enough. I won’t stay here forever, it’s a good stepping stone.

We have minimum off times on small units for 3 hours on our big 2x1 it's 8 hours min off. They usually only cycle it once a day. Our one GE unit has 6 hour minimum off time. All units are breaker to breaker off times

View of our turbine being taken apart, replacing our 2 LP turbines.

We have minimum run times. Every time we close the breaker, it needs to run for a minimum of 32 hours before it hits our Long Term Service Agreement....and hard. This month I had a trip on a frozen compressor bleed valve at 2340 rpm, so I wasn’t even self sustaining yet, tripped the turbine. That partial start cost us 3 starts total/or 53.5 run hours at base load on our Factored Fired Hours calculator.

Interesting to hear about different utilities and how business is done.
