Okay. I got some great news for 2018 Tundra owners who want to install the AMP Power Boards.

The physical mounting of the steps was fairly straight forward, but what caused me much headache was the wiring portion. With NKLNDYM's help I was able to get my power boards working properly.

Amp's instructions were not the best and the pictures were horrible. So when comes time to wire in your power boards I hope this helps.

Lets start with the driver side. Lets start down low (the blue wire which is the driver side front door trigger). When you pull the kick plate off look for a white connector under the blue connector. Its a light blue wire in the column with black wire on the top.

    IMG_4717.jpg IMG_4729.jpg

The driver side rear door trigger (grey wire) I could not trace the wire down low so I had to access it the way the AMP instructions indicated. I had to remove the panel and look the white connector. The wire you want to tap into is in the center row of the large white plug (according to AMP via an email) it is a light gauge pink/red or a red wire in the fourth cavity down. In my truck it was a red wire. If the instructions has mentioned middle row 4th wire down and that it could be red or pink w/red stripe I would have saved myself hours of time. Here is a picture from my truck (you can see where I tried to tap into the pink w/red stripe but the red wire was the one I needed.
    IMG_4726.jpg IMG_4730.jpg

The passenger side actually worked out for the way the colors were described in the instructions. I hooked the AMP Blue wire to the Tundra's Tan Wire and the AMP White Wire to the Tundra's Green Wire.

I hope this clarifies things. I really wish they would have included color pictures of the wiring and the little note that the wire for the Driver Rear Door could be Red or Pink w/Red Stripe.

    JM,
My 2018 Crewmax TRD Sport wires were Red too. I took a chance that the instruction were wrong for my truck, and just used the Red since it was in the right location on the plug.

    2018 TRD Sport,

I am glad that worked for you. The instructions said pink w/red stripe in pin 24. I didnt see a pin diagram for the 2018 model like all the other wiring parts. I havent really done any sort of modification since I put an ARB Bull Bar on my 94 Wrangler in 1997. But I can hook up wires if I am told which plug, which port, or a specific color. I had no idea what pin 24 was. And frankly I dont think it even occurred to me to count pins. I looked in there and saw a pink w/red strip and was like that is it. Then I was a little pissed because the posi-taps didnt fit that wire. The positaps included were 20-22 gauge and when it didnt fit I was like that must be the 18 gauge wire then since its too big for the positap.

In anycase. I hate to rehash it over again.

I think now this thread has good information and good picture from some good people that had I had this knowledge going forward I would be been successful the first time through. I guess my only complaint now is that I wish AMP Research would have been more thorough. Even if they didnt have color pictures in the instructions. I would have been happy for a line that said go to this website for some up to date wiring pictures.

Oh well. Thanks for the additional info!

Follow the instructions that came with the boards for mounting. Make sure the arm that holds the motor is mounted when the arm is deployed out (I found it easier to mount the step to the arm that way). You can get a PDF of the instructions from AMP's website. When it actually comes to tapping into the wires refer to the pictures in the previous posts.

JIC Here is a link to a good you tube video on installing those boards https://youtu.be/FvNGJLMrVic

AzTony has some good pictures of the plugs and which wires need to be tapped.

41A8CEF3-66D5-488F-BF4C-1757F649199B.jpg Yes. No plug and play for the 18 yet. I referred my friend and mechanic to this post. We/he got the lift and level installed today and got the steps themselves installed. Tomorrow he will work on get the wiring done so this should hopefully save him a bunch of time. Thanks for the info.

FYI - called AMP this morning and they stated that the plug-n-play kit will not be released for the 2018 Tundra. Something to do with the OBD-II port on the newer models and not being able to diagnose issues...the explanation wasn't very thorough. Anyhow, he confirmed that the hard wire kit will be the only one available for 2018+ Tundras.

Looking to get a set of these boards in the coming weeks. Will definitely refer to this thread when it comes time for the install!
