Hey all! I’ve been having an issue with my tailgate not shutting properly. Every now and then it doesn’t want to latch. Finally had some tome today to pull the access panel off and I found that when I had my line x Bedliner sprayed in....the technician sprayed the rods going to the outside of the tailgate as well as the plastic guides holding the rods. Just wondering the easiest way to get about 1 inch off of the rods where they run through the plastic guides.....or do I even need the guides? Not sure how bad the rods might rattle if they weren’t lightly secured in those guides? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Take it back and have them fix. LineX should have done it correctly the first time.

When I got mine done they said Armor All will take it off of painted surfaces.

If I were you I would take it back. They should stand by their work.

I'd love to see pics if you have some. When I got my bed Line-x'ed they missed a portion of the tailgate. Took it back and they re-sprayed the entire thing. Now it's built up so much I have to SLAM the gate to get it to fully latch. Maybe my issue similar to yours but I can't picture in my mind what you're talking about.

I'm thinking of getting a linex liner but this is the type of concerns that keep me from pulling the trigger

When I was trying to install a D-ring on the bed, I asked a local line-x dealer. He told me that the best way to cut away a small portion of line x is to heat the knife first then cut it. Apparently high temperature makes the material easier to cut. I ended up just having the dealer install them along with the SwingCases.

I’ll get a couple pictures when I get home and have access to a T30 bit to remove the tailgate panel.

Like others said, Linex should fix it. On the other hand if you just have to clean the rods, take them out and use a wire wheel. The plastic guides are probably cheap to replace.

I am suggesting that because it it is probably easier to do it yourself. You not out of your truck and you know it is done right. Obviously the Linex installer didn't give a damn in the first place, why would he do now?

Razor blade, if it's just on the rods.

I had some overspray all over the locking mechanism in my tailgate also. Most of it just scraped right off. Some of that even came off using my finger nail. The surface wasn’t prepped so it most likely didn’t stick very well.

Thanks for the pics. On my truck I don't think line-x sprayed under the access plate. The flange around the tailgate where the plate attaches is where they didn't spray enough and I could see paint thru the liner. I'll have to take the plate off and check...

This happened to me too. They didn't mask off the two locking latches on the tail gate. Luckily they were covered in grease from the factory so it scraped right off.

At work if pvc glue spills in the bed on the spray on liner and dries it peels the bed liner off wherever it has spilled.

Like everyone else said, take it back to them. They should definitely fix it. I stand by my line-x liner...the shop I went to and still go to is very reputable and outstanding.

If it was me I would take it back. If you fix their work that is a get out of jail free card for them. The warranty would be void since you modified their work. No matter how small let them fix it.

Noticed the same thing here after a Line-X install a week ago. Install shop is quite a drive. Will pop the inspection plate and see what I can see. Should go back to vendor, we'll see.

Ok, there was very little spray on the control arms but I cleaned them up anyway. Seemed to work better but still not at the should. Noticed there are two rubber standoffs near the locking rings. One was trimmed down more than the other. I trimmed both down so they are almost even with the Line-X coating thickness. Shut the tailgate with some force and she mates up like it should. Just barely catches. Will see if this lasts. The locks are both fine, no overspray, lots of lube and no problems with function.
