UCA Options...

Okay...

I have a 2015 TRD PRO and am currently running @Coachbuilder1 shims shackles and bump stop extensions. I will soon be installing his steering kit when I install my @SCSPerformance Ray10's.

While I am getting the above done I would like to upgrade my UCA's also. I have been particularly looking at JBA OFFROAD and am about 90% sure that is what I'm going to go with. If I were to go with another aftermarket UCA it would be SPC. I know that it isn't absolutely necessary to do but I figure it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade them as well.

So, my question is...

What would you do?

Depends how much maintenance you want to do with them too...

I run SPCs and I’m happy but I don’t off-road. It was for alignment purposes solely after I installed my lift

 

I myself like Total Chaos

 

I don’t mind greasing them.

 

Sticking with ball joint style. They salt The roads too much in the winter for me to even want to try a uniball setup.

 

I'm considering upgrading my UCAs within the next year & am trying to learn what I can. Why would the salt hurt the uniballs? I thought that they were practically bomb proof.
I have read that some people get some noise from the uniballs. From the liners maybe?

 

SPCs next on my list. Not fancy looking. No labeling. Gets the job done.

Much appreciated @Noodle. I really like the look of them and they seem to be extremely strong/beefy. Everyone that has them who I have talked to in the Tundra and Tacoma world loves them!

@n2deep for the extra degree of travel they allow over the stock tie rods.

 

Haven't noticed the tie rods limiting travel. But interesting.

 

Coachbuilder tie rods are great but they can limit caster. Because they're straight and beefy they can hit the lower spring perch. and you may find you can't get more than 3* caster.

 

If you don’t want uniballs because of the salt, then you probably don’t want to run his steering kit. They’re essentially the same thing, OEM tie rods are pretty damn stout.

 

Good point, I hadn't even thought of it and I'm running 'em.

 

Voted SPC as that is what I ran on my '12 DC. I'll be running the Camburg uni-balls on the '18 CM.

No complaints with the SPCs. They just worked.

 

I went with the JBA's because they're priced right, and i like the red.

 

Im leaning twards the JBA's on my new to me tundra,but had SPC's on my tacoma and they worked fine.not sure what lift im going with uet so that may change my mind for the adjustment you can get from the spc's

It's the ToyTec Boss kit. It's a very nice ride. Pleased with my decision on that kit.

i would get the jba. i used to have total chaos on my tacoma and they were fantastic, i just like the shield on the top and the boot on the bottom on the jba.
it is better protection from the elements.

 

I went with the OME and SPC set-up mainly because they are maintenance-free. I've had them for almost four years with zero issues with absolutely zero maintenance. The truck went through PA winters with plenty of salt/chemical. (This picture was taken shortly after the installation.

 

I vote total chaos for performance, its one of those subjects everyone has had different experiences when talking about uniballs and salty areas, some have had no problems some had problems. If youre worried about that then the icon delta joint has a high angle ball joint design that functions like a uniball and is enclosed not exposed to the elements.

 

JBA here. Installed maybe 5 months and 2000 miles ago. The JBA ball joint will not be a limiting factor for travel unless you're planning to go LT. I'm sure you've read up on the JBA ball joint by now, if not....

• Up travel is 40 deg off of center line of the ball joint.
• Down travel is 50 deg off of center line.
• Full range of motion is 90 deg.

 

And i heard people getting good alignment numbers woth the JBA's as well,bonus the joint can be found at most any parts store
