ok so i just purchased a 2018 tundra TRD offroad, with all the bells and whistles and what not, truck has less than a 1000 miles on it and go to haul my 5500 pound camper, and no gain adjustment or locking up tires with slider bar, all lights work and truck does show that trailer is attached, i hooked up to another flat bed trailer with eletric brakes and same problem. I seen where the 2016 models had this problem, but i would think that after two years it would be fixed by now..

Gain button is know to be need to be really difficult to get to respong, just push it really hard, multiple times, that what I had to do early on with mine.

I did that several times and there was no response when using the manual slider as well, when I first hooked up camper it let me go to five on the gain but the trailer brakes were not working

There is a software update for the IBC that gets mixed reviews. I had it applied, but have not tested it yet. It is T-SB-0231-17 for "better braking feel". They checked my VIN to make sure my truck was applicable.

His truck is an 2018, the TSB is for earlier models, the 2018 IBC has a different setup in software then earlier models, more on screen options.

Ok. Wasn't sure if it was different. Thanks for clarifying.

You would think that in two years it would be solved by now, I have to call dealer Monday and take it in

Same problem for me. I had 2011 tundra and towed my boat from Florida to Atlanta with no problems just a few months ago. I traded the 2011 in for 2018 Tundra xsp a few months ago. Hooked up to trailer and trailer brakes do not work. Brake lights work as well as all other lights but electric brakes are inop. My dash shows no trailer and the gain will not work at all. I checked the 7 pin and all pins are good except for the electric brake. 0 vdc when brakes are applied. Dealer said it checks good?? I asked why is there no voltage and they just say it passes test and I should bring in my trailer. Not happy....

Search other posts regarding this. I had the problem of no gain adjustment, took it into the dealer. They repositioned the mother board in the controller so the switches work. It worked for my brake controller. Seem to work the brakes now. Attached are the tech’s comments.4AE56C41-686A-4463-AC7A-917930B1F499.jpg

I took mine to local dealer, and they came up with main wiring harness from controller to 7 pin hook up had a bad connection box and corrosion, so Toyota had to buy a 2500 dollar wiring harness plus labor, I will know Monday next week if works correctly

Did the new wiring harness fix your issue? We keep experiencing "trailer disconnected" with our brand new 2018 Toyota Tundra while pulling our brand new 2018 travel trailer.

Yes it did, given we were only going about 29 miles away to try out camper everything worked. It a little different than the ones I’m used to, the slider wouldn’t work unless the gain was turned up, I was running around 10 gain in over 5000 pounds electric and seemed to work good so far

Haven’t tried mine yet, but am shopping’s trailer. The funny part is, this is not high technology.

I must have gotten lucky, I bought the truck out of state so use my local dealer near me, when they checked the brake wire had high resistance, something with a lot of corresion at the junction box, replaced and works fine now so far.

I'm having same story with my '18 TRD Off Road 4x4. All lights work on trailer when 7-pin connected. (and this trailer's brakes work fine with my '01 Sequoia + Tekonsha P3). I can get the gain to adjust up. But cannot set the trailer brake type ('electric'), and when I move the slider, the dash displays error message: "trailer disconnected", and gain goes back to zero.

Local dealer spent 4 hours - check all wiring on truck - and could find nothing wrong. No service bulletins on this either. Brought my trailer in too, and they even brought another Tundra over, tried it, and even swapped in the board to mine. No success.

Fiddled a bit more. Cleaned the contacts on the trailer-side plug. And, 1 time, the brake actually worked. For about 1 second, during a test application. Nothing since.

Not sure what my options are. I think I'll examine the trailer-side junction box, in case some of the brake wiring is marginal. Will let you know if anything turns up.

Taking mine in Saturday and they installing a new one. I had connections issues but it worked great when it was on and working, unfortunately it would disconnect and not always at a good time.

man what a shame. I had a Prodigy in my 1st gen for a car trailer and that thing was awesome. Truck darn near stopped BETTER with the loaded trailer behind it thanks to the controller! Was wonderful to tow. as was said earlier this is NOT high tech stuff and has long since been mastered by the RV industry. which btw is really shameful for Toyota as the RV industry is about as sleezy and cheesy as it gets!

Just bought a 2018 Tundra TRD Off-Road also. I tow a 16' landscape trailer; haven't tried it yet as I just picked up the truck Tuesday. Guess I'll keep my Tekonsha P3 that I used in my Tacoma for a while just in case.

I see a whole lot of people reporting problems with their IBC. Does anyone actually have a good experience with it?

Gave it a try Sunday with the trailer unloaded. No issues so far. Really like the setup of the IBC, I just hope it works.

Guess I’ve been fortunate...the factory IBC on my ‘18 has worked great. Last weekend I pulled this approx 5,000 pound trailer (it was packed!) and stopping was a breeze.
