Does your MPG appear stuck?

So my MPG seems to have been stuck on 12.9 for over a year. It moved to 12.8 a month ago and hasnt moved since. Nothing would change it. Highway driving, idling to warm up it never moved. Recently I changed my truck battery and boom! The mpg now adjusts normally to my driving habits. Now it causes me to drive while feathering the throttle to try to get it to go up lol. I fluctuate between 12.6--13.0. That seems as good as it gets no matter how good I drive. If anyone seems to have a stuck MPG reading try disconnecring the battery and reconnecting it.

 

The longer you go between resets, the slower the change will be just based on the math. To put it another way, if you're averaging against 10 miles, driving just 1 mile can affect a 10% change in the readout. If you are averaging against 10,000 miles, then that same one mile won't even move the meter. You'd have to drive 1000 miles to have the same relative affect on the readout.

This is all just to say, you need to reset the meter occasionally to get a picture of your more recent mileage.

Yup. I only averaged slightly higher than that with my Tacoma.

 

After driving 5500 miles it's stuck at 14.3. Better then 10 that I started with.

 

Reset mine yesterday and after a day and a half of around town driving I’m back to 13.8. lol

 

Lol do you reset it often? I reset mine after each fill up and log mileage in the fuelly app to compare

 

I’ve only had the truck a week and a half. It was on 15.9 when I got it. My first tank recording mileage and dividing by gallons of gas pumped I was at 14.6 mpg. Not bad considering that’s no highway and I have been letting it sit warming up a bit.

@Tracker to reset it, use the disp button on the steering wheel to show the avg mpg, then press and hold the disp button until it shows 0.0, should take 3 seconds or so.

 

lowest I've measured is 15.0. Typical is 16-17, mostly highway. 2WD though and that can make a difference. The display MPG is an estimate and does not match the mileage/gallon and a calculator.

I guess i was so used to my GM that would update the mpg automatically as you drove

 

Tundra does too but you need to set back to zero occasionally otherwise, like someone else said will not much change as miles accumulate without reset

 

I'm close to yours, 12.4 -13 mpg!
I'm running Nitto Ridge grapplers 295/70/18's and my lead foot doesn't help,

 

12.4 here, stock size tires...

 

12.6 mpg here with mostly in town driving with a lead foot. Plus towing very often.

I’m with this guy ^ lol I hardly ever look at it.
It’s been stuck around 10 for a long time. But my truck has a trailer hooked up to her for 75% if it’s life.

 

Around town I average 12.8. I reset it yesterday and drove up I-5 3hrs with a average of 15.9. I don’t take my time getting anywhere.

 

LOL, at first glance I read the title of the thread to be "Does your MPG appear to Suck". The answer is yes, but I really don't care. Love my Tundra

 

Last weekend I was pulling the boat straight in to a 20-25 mph south wind. Made me want to turn the thing off. Don't like seeing MPGs in the single digits

 

I like to push that right pedal down to let my 5.7L V8 open up. So it's more like MPG= Minutes Per Gallon.

 

Mines double digits 9.8-9.9mpg, see there's two digits, it's just that damn decimal point that gets me. Can't wait to finally get re-geared next week.

09 was at 14-15, sequoia was 14-16, and this is about 12-14, Got worse with the SC! But hey this one has the transfer flow tank so I fill up less often! And have way more fun!
