Still following this thread, very curious what the OP is told. If it is some sort of uncapped wire then I will stand corrected and eat some pride..

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Surprised that I have not seen this thread until now. It sounds like something is either getting grounded out, that should not be or a ground wire that should be hooked up is loose.

That sounds like they reflashed ur truck because an uncapped wire shouldnt cost $450.

UPDATE: the truck got towed to the best stereo shop in town this morning to try to begin to diagnose the issue. I told them what the guy did to the truck and they’re going to take it all apart and try to figure out the issue. One of the first things out of the guys mouth was I hope it’s not a fried ecm...I almost cried. Would a dealership take a truck in on trade with a fried computer?

You were the one with an uncapped wire? I mentioned it could be something as simple as that. Did you read my symptoms and were yours similar?

Yes, that’s what they told me although I still don’t believe it. I believe the dealer did some sort of a reprogram.

Would the dealership be a better choice? I'm thinking so because they have all the program ability. If the stereo shop can't figure it out then you are out more money?

The dealer might be the next stop if they can’t fix it. I’m honestly going to have a discussion about trading it in if I have to take it there

Everyone tells me that but I’ve been in lots of trouble in my life and I’ve turned it around, that’s the reason why I get the privledge of owning nice things like a tundra these days. As much as I’d like to resort back to my old ways and beat the snot out of this guy I’m not, im going to learn from my mistakes and pay the price and be done with it.

The stereo shop called and said the battery is indeed fried and when they hook it up to power it keeps blowing fuses. They ordered some more which will be there tomorrow and they’ll know more. Didn’t ask which specific fuses. He said it could be just as simple as an exposed wire touching something and shorting out the whole system similar to what happened to someone in this thread. So I’ll know more in the next couple days and maybe even have my baby back as good as new by the weekend. I’ll keep everyone updated!

I think this is the most suspense thread I’ve seen on the board.

If a bulb is blown, am pulling over soon to get it fixed..... much less this?????

And it’s not even my truck ....

    Grrrrrrrr

    UPDATE

So the stereo shop guys lost my number and we’re waiting for me to call them, go figure. But they said there were some wires that were not cut correctly and everything was a mess back there but they tied everything in and capped them off correctly and made sure everything is wired up to the right spots. They said they hooked the truck up to some sort of supplied power source, something constantly charging my battery I believe but as soon as they would take it off it would run for a bit and die. So sounds like somehow this whole ordeal fried not only my battery but the alternator also. Next stop is my trusted mechanic to get the alternator tested and then replace it. This is the weirdest thing ever, the battery quitting makes sense but I have no idea how wiring up something behind the head unit fries the alternator. Once I get that confirmed as the issue and it gets fixed I’ll let you all know again! Maybe we can use this for research purposes and help the next poor bastard from going through this, I’m losing hair daily...

Light at the end of the tunnel my friend. Hope this gets solved and doesn't end up costing an arm and a leg. On the bright side, sounds like the trucks computer is likely okay.

A weak or dead battery can and most likely will frag the alternator.

Think about it, batteries are current hogs. Most troubleshooting is done at idle, and when the most current is needed, at the lowest engine rpm and cooling, the voltage regulator is going to supply that extra load..this is a recipe for failure.

    FYI

    The truck is home!!

So the battery was shot and somehow the wiring before was blowing the fuse to the alternator and charging system. After it was rewired correctly and a new battery and fuse put it would start and all electronics would work. But the idle was still very low, inconsistent and rough. My mechanic said that was because when the battery is disconnected the computer resets so it went back to stock idle settings as if it were brand new and wasn’t compensating for a dirty throttle body and MAF. So after cleaning those it runs like a champ. Drove it home and everything is back to normal, it’s such a relief. Got my MPGs up to 7.2 on the way home too!

So the moral of the story is, if you need work done take it to a professional unless you’re 100 percent certain you can do it correctly! It will save you money in the long run. Thanks for all the help, you guys are awesome
