I'm a numbers guy so I put more weight behind trends rather than one off anomalies.

Up to this year, I've never had a flu shot... also, never had flu either. But with a newborn in the house, if i can reduce the risk of her getting flu, I'm down for it. Flu is pretty dangerous for newborns. The numbers are in our favor, it will do more good than harm and while yes, something weird could happen, I could also get hit by a bus too. Play to the odds my friends.

And while that's my rationalization for why I got it, the real reason is because my wife told me to.

We talked about our kids getting flu shots before having kids, so we were on the same page. We decided not to give the flu shot due to both of us never getting them and all the vaccinations given in the first few years of life.

We also asked our friends and family not to be around the infants if not feeling well. ***rant on***I know, it is amazing how many people will actually go see a newborn when sick. Mind blown. Then again, one of my friends wife actually said when we announced she was pregnant “oh I hope your baby is gay”....yeah. Friend delete.*** Rant off***

I do believe in modern medicine and how amazing it can be compared to 100 years ago, or hell, 20 years ago.

Never rush out to get a flu shot. Wait until late October unless you're in a high risk category. If you were inoculated before then, consider a second flu shot. This time, make sure it's a Quadrivalent flu vaccine, that will cover all four strains that are going around right now. The majority of the cases where someone gets the flu shot, and still gets the flu, are due to a new strain of the flu or that the predictions about which flu is going to be prevalent were wrong. Deciding which vaccine to produce is a highly educated guessing game and the manufacturers don't always get it right. The good news is that any flu shot will lessen the severity of the strain that you do catch. If you have any reaction to the vaccine, tell your doctor. Certain conditions are rare, but very real and your doctor needs to know what's going on.

For those who still believe in the debunked research on the damage done by vaccines, check this link. http://howdovaccinescauseautism.com/

Unfortunately I'm on an Air Force base with no corpsman in sight ... lol. Not a knock on the Air Force medics, they're all great folks, but our local clinic is really only set up for immunizations and prescriptions and x-rays, and that's about it. If you have to see a doctor you go to the off-base clinic at a local hospital, and it takes at least a week or two to get an appointment. I was so sick I went to the off-base clinic without an appt (tried but couldn't get one until the following week) and they sent me down to urgent care right away. Crazy stuff.

Yes, we get the flu shot yearly and have not had the flu in almost 20 years. (The year we got it they came out and said the shot was only 2-3% effective since the expected strain had changed.)

My son-in-laws Dad has been a pharmacist with his own pharmacy here in town for over 40-years and I asked him about all the rumors going around (especially on Facebook) about the negatives of the flu shot and he said they are all crap and, at best, half-truthes...GET THE SHOT!!

If you have Tricare Prime, you no longer need pre-approval to go to an Urgent Care place off-base. After you go, just call Tricare to report it since they'll be getting the bills. (And there's no longer a co-pay for going.) When we do that, we even bring any prescriptions we get to the USAF Academy clinic and get the meds for free, no co-pay.

Thanks. Yeah, I was aware of that and we've done that before with my son. I actually dropped by urgent care first but the waiting room was completely full so I took a chance and took the elevator ride up to the clinic (they're in the same building) hoping they would get me in quicker since I was standing there sick ... lol. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I have never got a flu shot and probably never will. Knock on wood, but I haven't had the flu in about 15 years at least. From what I've seen around here, you get the flu shot, you end up with the flu. A bunch of money gimmick bullshit, if you ask me. Not saying the flu isn't a big deal, it can be deadly, but there is a shit ton of fake news, just to get everyone in panic. Just my .02 cents.

Yep. So rare that Drs didn't have a clue. So they ended up with dialysis to clean up her blood cause they couldn't figure out what else to do.

I see your point. We had a medic that took care of our group specifically. Military has changed a lot...that is for sure.

oh right because there isn't any whistleblower claiming the CDC falsified vaccine data? The CDC isn't currently under investigation for investments made to tobacco, pharmaceutical and health care companies. They don't have serious mishaps with deadly pathogens all the time? I wonder how many vaccine patients they own maybe like 50 or 60? They are a stand up company like bayer mereck and Monsanto who never get sued? Billions of dollars hasn't been shelled out to people for vaccine damages right?

It is very scary. The symptoms cam be similar to ALS (lou gehrigs) and multiple sclerosis. But harder to diagnose so Dr's are often at a loss as to what is wrong.

    This is great ^^^

Although flu vaccines are in a different category than the vaccines that people stopped giving their kids based on bogus claims. It still rings true. Vaccinate yourself and especially your kids. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

My wife is a nurse so I get it every year. Bringing home other peoples junk into the house 10% effective is still better then 0% effective. I can still get it but with healthy 40 year old dying because of the flu why take the chance.

I rarely get sick. When I do it's usually the flu and it messes me up for several days. Got my first flu shot a couple of weeks ago.

Since I'm on Zytiga, I couldn't get a live virus flu shot which is 30% effective. I had to get a non live virus version that's 70% effective. Guess you have to have cancer to get the bennie shot!!!!!
