So... Canada huh? I'm down here in the dirty ole south, Texas, and have two questions for you guys. If I visit Canada and had to pick one place to go, where would you recommend? And two, what do you think the best part about living in Canada is?

I personnaly have spent most of my time in the West so I am a little biased. Vancouver Island is a very nice place to go the Forests and mountains in BC are great. My personal favorite place:

    DSC_0630.jpg

Best thing about Canada? The big wide open coutry and all the exploring you can do!
I love driving down to Montana though, lots of similar areas and people just on the other side of the border.

Hongcouver is over rated. Go visit Hastings. It'll feel like home. Minus the lack of firepower in your favour. Other than that. Bleh. Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Nelson. Far far nicer places.

Spelling words with the "U" in them. (See above.)

Depends on what you want to do/see. BC is gorgeous but the roads suck and things are far too over priced. Alberta is nice if you're near the mountains or far far north. Anything south of Edmonton and east of the QEII is Flat and boring as sin. Unless it's July and the Flax and Canola is blooming. Then it's gorgeous!

Best part? Gold in Hockey baby!

One place? The Yukon, right up in Whitehorse. Most beautiful mountain-scape and valleys ever. The culture up there is amazing, such a friendly place! Plus it's a stone's throw to some pretty interesting places like the Carcross desert (yes, desert - the smallest in the world). I can't express how beautiful it is up there, you'd really have to Google a ton of pictures or go see for yourself. I'm pretty sure my fondest memory is meeting a grizzly almost face to face right in the suburban area of Whitehorse... there's a lot of wildlife in town.

Also.. um.. best part about living in Canada? That it's not the States... hah. Only slightly kidding. But really everything.. it's an amazing country! I've been to a few places in the States and no one is as friendly as us Canadians ;)

It is currently my Aunt's guiding territory in south east BC (for sale right now I believe). Well known for its bighorn sheep hunts, people come from all over the world...but it is nice to have a family discount ;)

    http://www.fontanabighorn.com/

Horseback ride in for a couple hours and then you can do day trips from there. It is by far my favourite place on the planet.

I keep telling my wife I want to go to the countryside and less populated places in Canada, but she really wants to go to Quebec and Montreal. Maybe if I get a bunch of pictures of the places you guys suggest it will sway her thinking.

That looks about right for what I see out my window. You know it is going to be a great March 20 Day when you have to clear a couple inches of snow off your truck...

Ok I am guilty of dredging up this thread... but here goes

I have been from coast to coast numerous times and can say with confidence that anywhere in Canada is worth the trip, more-so if you have never been here before. I have, driven, coached, flown, railed and hitched hiked, starting my travels in the later part of the 70's through to the early parts of the 90's and was always pleasantly awed by the scenery and people.

'Friendly' is relative to how a visitor presents themselves, as it is anywhere you go. So come on up to the "Great White North" smile at people and you will find them to be helpful and friendly everywhere you go.

A helpful hint... make yourself aware of the laws and bylaws regarding the province(s), city(s) you care to visit, it makes for sometimes a funny read but a comfortable visit.

I really enjoyed driving up thru BC and on thru Yukon. Muncho Lake, Teslin area, Kluane Lake, Watson Lake , the Fraser River, Whitehorse all come to mind. Great people too. (and CHEEZIES)
