Hello, I am currently trying to figure out what suspension components to put on my tundra. I know I want to be able to put 35" tires on, and I want to be able to do a decent amount of offroading, nothing extreme but definitely want to put the 4x4 to use, but it is my DD. I've tried looking around to see what it is I need to do but I can't seem to find exactly what I need. I think I've decided on the BDS 4.5 lift, but do I really need coilovers if I'm not desert running? Should I upgrade to coachbuilders tie rod ends? Do I need a carrier bearing drop kit? Should I upgrade the UCA's and if so how high end? I want the performance of my tundra but I also don't want to see the life of the truck be shortened because of it. Any help is appreciated, I am all new to this. Thanks, -Justin

Tundras come with coil overs up front, so you will need 'em no matter what. What you are thinking for desert running is a long travel suspension; you don't need that. If you are doing 4.5" lift you will need new UCAs to maintain factory angles (don't remember technical term for this). You will need to drop your differential as well, so make sure your lift kit includes that. Do you plan to use blocks or shackles for the rear? Based on what you're saying, go with shackles.

Folks with a lot more expertise will chime in.

My bad I meant a coilover with reservoir such as the fox coilovers that you can buy in the kit. And I think shackles should be the way to go from what I've heard. Thanks for your help!

They are the +2s but only give ~1.25 of lift. He has 3 options that range between like .625 and 1.75 and these are the middle. I had these paired with an AAL and gave me around 2.5" total lift in the rear

If it were me I would do a solid Mid Travel setup - Fox, King, Icon or ADS coilovers and Upper control arms.
I have done them all and feel that is the best setup without going overboard. Tie Rod ends are not needed but you may want to do the diff drop. Where ya located?

I'm in Huntington beach. So you wouldn't go with the BDS but instead just get the ucas and good shocks?

I do have airbags in the rear, so I'm sure that changes things too.

Well I believe the BDS lift is a bracket lift and you have to cut out your crossmember. Not something I would want to do. Unless maybe they changed something. You will most likely have to do the body mount chop and plate but a MT coilover system will out perform the BDS in every way unless its just lift you want. MT will net you 2.5 or so of lift plus the 1.5in increase in tire size. It will be plenty unless you want the big lifted bro look. ;P

Don't want the big truck look just wanted the clearance but if 2.5 can clear me 35s. And I had no idea I would have to cut the crossmember out.

I guess it depends, I mean I don't tow anything heavy enough so the only reason I saw to keep it was for the lift. But is it useless?

Don't know much about air bags but they limit travel - there are a handful of setups for the rear and they all suck lol

So if you were gonna do it how what would you get? It there a complete mid travel kit or do I have to buy all the stuff separately.

Well it all depends on how you plan to use the truck. I would stay away from blocks and go shackles or Add a leaf. Or change out the whole spring pack, but that depends on how often you carry weight or tow as to what i would recommend.

You don't want Deaver k37's then. Either the Deaver U742 pack or the Icon RXT- that one lets you change it if needed by adding leafs.

So I think the rear is figured out with those and shackles, I'm more confused on the front. Is 2.5 inches enough for difficult trails or do I need to go 4. If 2.5 is plenty what do I need to achieve it
