Well Depends,,,, Recently had the flash done to my IBC(2016 dc towing pkg) and it was a noticeable improvement over the old software. Towed a two stall horse trailer bout 1k recently, 500 out empty and 500 back with probably only around 1k lbs worth of sheep, it did ok... Would I tow a large or heavy trailer with the IBC, no... I made a mount for my P2 when I need real brakes,,, Unplug factory harness, plug in adaptor harness,,,, set gain on P2(Tekonsha) and not worry. If you will tow a lot, my vote Tekonsha P2 or P3...

Not sure what you are asking. Weight is weight whether it be bricks or horses, and whether those bricks are laid straight or slanted don't matter much either. That said, yes, I've pulled straight loads, slant loads and crap loads. Tundra stopped them all just fine. Of course horse trailers have their own brakes, so they do much of the work.

I think what she means is the config of the trailer.... the horses stand diagonally across the trailer.

Yeah I got that. Just wasn't sure how it was relevant to tow or braking capacity.

Yep. Plenty of times with this old Miley 2 horse straight. Pulls and stops easy. She’s pretty light though and we just had 2 quarter horse mares inside.

I tow 6K trailer and can't imagine you'd have any issue. That said the factory brake controller update is NOT effective, possibly a little effective but nothing I could notice. I installed a Tekonsha P3. The difference is night and day. If you have the ability to get the Tekonsha, do it.

I'm new to the forum and have a 2010 SR5 Dbl Cab with 4.6 and towing package that was offered with that engine at the time. Does not have the factory supplied trailer brake, but I added a Tekonsha. I tow an S&H 3-horse slant load, mostly with 2 horses, but have carried 3 on several occasions. NO ISSUES on stopping, and we lived in Tennessee hills several years.
We just purchased a 2018 Dbl Cab with 5.7 engine. What a difference in towing power! Factory controller took a bit to tune in, but seems to work fine.
I'll post pics of the truck and trailer soon.

My biggest load I pull is 6500lbs, no issues. I had the brake controller TSB done as before it did nothing, it brakes the trailer more now. I don't know if it can be better or not as I have nothing to compare it to.

For 6 years I towed a Mortiz steel stock/combo slant load 13 ft trailer with my 2015 4x4 double cab V8. I used a distribution hitch. Mostly I had just one horse and camping equipment. I also have an ARE high cap over the truck bed. The trailer weighs 3200 lbs empty and the tongue weight is 725 lbs. I just bought a new Jamco slant load 14 ft, solid aluminum (not just a frame and skin over it but tongue and groove aluminum planks) that weighs 3600 lbs empty with a tongue weight of 700 lbs. I expect it to do the same jobs. Hauling my horse all over the hills of Vermont, including a lot of wash board dirt roads. I weighed my unit, individually and hitched, on a feed mill scale and I am within the payload and GCWR.
