Decisions decisions...

Soooo, I was trying my wife's 4runner when all of a sudden I hear a pop and ding ding ding... I look down and there's a completely straight nail on the driveway. Across the road, 2 house down, they are building a house, so the nail gun went off accidently or something, but now I have a chip on my chrome. In the past I've been contemplating either replacing the chrome or some how finding someone to paint them. Now that this has happened, I don't know what I should do next. Where to order the parts if I want to go that route and etc, or have someone paint the chrome.

 

Hate to say exactly what everyone said to me when I posted my first ding but... just leave it alone for now. At a minimum, don't lose sleep over that little chip. Painting away some of the chrome is cool, but not just to repair that.

Slowly, your eyes will just kind of delete it from vision. It just looks bad right now since its all you can focus on.

 

Minor. Let it go IMO.

Nail guns dont just "go off"

 

Looks relatively minor but annoying nonetheless. I'm with @Tacogrande on talking to the builder. I wouldn't make a huge deal of it but take the nail over and at least make someone aware that it happened. Better a little chip in the chrome than not seeing that nail and having it end up in your tire.

 

See, that's what I heard too! It's possible that he accidently released it right? For a moment I wondered if it was intentional. Also, I made the supervisor aware of it, but also mentioned I may want it repaired. Should I ask him and if he says no let it go?

 

Or in my head. I was about 2 feet away from it. My son is usually right behind me but I made him stay in that time. All I could do was think how he could have been hit.

 

How much you wanna bet the framer who shot that nail has the safety removed from his gun and he probably removed the guards from his saw too.

As mentioned, nail guns don't accidentally go off. It is possible to miss. Meaning the trigger was pulled and the guard depressed but the "barrel"was just off to the side of the intended piece of wood.

Removing the guards is for rookies IMO. If you can learn to use the tool with the safeties you're better off. I've seen way too many injuries and yes, there was I time when I had the guard removed from my skillsaw.

Buddy working next to me missed his intended mark..
It deflected & ended in my wrist.. almost thru the other side.

Had to pull it out with my hammer. Blood everywhere.
Missed all the critical stuff though. Tendons, ligaments, bones

Ok pinned up. A lot of framers are pretty rough dudes who dont care much about safety. Didnot mean to say that WAS what happened but its possible.
