I know NOTHING about Tundra exhaust systems but, I have some experience with exhaust systems on my street/strip car.

When you start taking away back pressure by going to a larger diameter pipe (or uncapping your headers), you lose some low end power.
The upside is you gain top end horsepower.

Some back pressure isn't a bad thing unless you're drag racing the Tundra.

I recently went to.a local.custom exhaust shop near me lous custom exhaust, the guy there was shockingly honest and told me not to do an exhaust system on the truck. He says these new motor.need a certain amount of.back pressure and if it.doesn't have it you could ruin motor???? Is this true or was the guy being a lazy ass.

I won't say he was being lazy, but it can ruin how it drives [not the motor]. Had an 02 entended cab Ford with the 4.6. Ran true dual exhaust from right behind the converters. After the change, the truck would drop out of overdrive at the least little hill. I ended up putting a chip in the computer to solve the shifting issues and all was fine. I got lots of compliments on the truck though, true duals with 30'' glasspack mufflers. All of the older folks couldn't believe anew model truck could sound that good. Keep in mind this was in 2002 so tuners were exotic.

truck runs great and sounds ok exhaust wise i guess...just was seeking little more power.. I just really do not like that exhaust 'look' figured I'll just get a rear section made real nice with NO side exit :)

I figured @TruckyTruck would chime in here.

I have the single output BA Muffler 6" muffler replacement. I like it alot now.
With duals you dont want to decrease the backpressure too much.

If you plan on staying with stock manifolds, stick with a single out exhaust. Dual exhaust without headers will only net you a tiny increase in hp and nothing in low end tq. If you run new pipes and get rid of the 2 inch hidden pipe that's behind the drivers side cat, you will lose so much low end tq. The only way to make low end tq and hp with stock manifolds is leave the mid pipes alone and go with a straight thru muffler design to a single out exhaust like csuviper mentioned above. Even the stock single out tail pipe that comes with the truck was needed for the correct back pressure to get the stock motor to 380 hp and 400 pounds tq. If you dump the exhaust you may lose tq.

I've got duals and the truck may be a hair quicker at wot, but did zero for low end tq. The only reason I bought a dual cat back is because I plan on running long tube headers.

sure thing! I spent the first year I had my truck researching exhaust options. Gone are the days you can just slap some duals and a cai on your vehicle and expect more power.
