I posted this on my facebook page and thought I would share it here.

Here is something interesting. Lately I have been thinking about past family members who have passed away. One of them being Granny Ward. Now there was a woman who was born in what was indian territory, traveled to California in a horse drawn covered wagon, was a saloon girl and lived a colorful life.
She passed away in the early 80s, around 1981, iirc.
Anyway lets just look at her life for a second, lets say from the years 1900 thru 1969.
Her is a woman who saw this country go from horse and buggy, thru several world wars, to sending a man to the moon and back to earth, all in a span of 69 years..
What it must have seemed like to her, I so wish I could visit with her and record her life experiences and thoughts, what a awesome treasure it would have been to have.

I had to drive my grandfather to his son's funeral Friday. My uncle was only 53 when he passed and my grandfather is 82. It was a long drive 3 hrs each way so we got to talk a bit about things. His first car, where his parents are from, etc. Old stuff and new stuff. How the GPS on my phone connected through Bluetooth to tell me where to go through the car speakers, how the phone knows of traffic, etc.

I don't get to see him much, but it is cool hearing about life from his perspective. His first car was a Black 1949 Pontiac. He said everyone else at the time had muscle cars and he only had a straight six in his.

I found this on google, I think this is what it looked like but didn't confirm with him yet....

My Grandma Kerr was born in 1898. Died at 98 years old. One of 12 kids. Her family settled in Lake City, CA where she was born. It's in Surprise Valley. I've got quite a few relatives there to this day. All ranchers. I have her 8th grade math book. What was being taught back then was clearly a bit more difficult just sayin. I spent a lot of time with her on weekends when I was a kid. She lived in a nice modest house in South Gate, CA. She wasn't rich in the monetary sense at all but rich in knowledge. I learned a lot from her over the years.

I sure wish I could go back and speak with my maternal grandmother who was English, lived in London during WWII while my grandfather worked for RR. She raced side cars with my grandfather drove a new Corvette when she moved here with a sign in the back window "student driver", survived going through the windshield of a Jag.......
Or, my paternal great grandmother..... Like your granny, came to Cali via covered wagon, lost their hotel in SF in the quake, lost her husband, one of the first San Jose motorcycle cops who died in the line of duty...... What stories they could share...
