Everyone else in Oregon that hunts, fishes and gardens!

    R E T I R E D!!!!!
Yesterday was my last day of work. Filing for my pension and social now. The first thing I’ve got to do is sell my home in AZ. I’m looking forward to meeting up with folks and learning the ropes about land access and upland bird hunting.
It’s going to be lean for a few months, they say that the pension checks won’t start for 60 to 90 days. I expect to be in Vernonia within 3 months, but will be busy building for a while. Need a big metal building, maybe 40 x 80 for my blacksmiths shop and furniture building stuff, plus general shop space. Plan on getting a boat capable of descent comfort and stability on the Columbia river.
Construction for 45 years: historic restoration, water treatment, heavy civil, wet utilities, dry utilities, house building (tracts and custom homes), and lastly, traffic and signal lighting. Been a pretty wild ride!

I can talk to my brother about the building. He looked at a lot of companies before getting his built. I guess I should ask first pole barn w metal roof/siding or steel frame?

Also congrats on the retirement and hope you enjoy all your extra hobby time.

Just reread all your experience..., are you looking to get a kit and build yourself or have the company do the building?

I’m probably going to sub it out. I was thinking to go with an all steel building since I built several of those in the past and am more familiar with them. If your brother doesn’t mind, pm me an email and I appreciate all the information I can get about local suppliers and contractors.
If I can find a decent local contractor with a crew, I might get the building as a kit and have it erected.

I’ll get a hold of him here in a little bit. He is a Superintendent for a construction company here in Portland. I remember he wasn’t impressed with one companies customer service so he ditched them and went with a different one.

It sure is a small world. After I got out of the Marine Corps I delivered construction equipment(forklifts, boom lifts etc.)and delivered a lot to Skanska.

I used to spend a lot of time crabbing at Winchester Bay. Used crab pots with rotten chicken necks. Not much crabbin here in CO.

We go to Winchester Bay every Labor Day and stay in the condos with dune access. We talk about taking the kids to go crab but the traps are normally rented. Last summer our neighbor in the condos brought back these huge crabs they got and where playing with them before they ultimately became their dinner. Will have to try again this year if we get another condo.

A boyhood friends dad had a mobile home near the docks. Actually across the street. His dad had a commercial fishing license and 40 footer boat. Spent a lot of time fishing on the weekends during the summer. early 70s..

Half Moon at Winchester, I catch crabs off the rocks with my pole. They're currently rebuilding the dock there where everyone crabs.

Might be closed off by BLM now, but we used to drive down to the last parking lot on the beach past the lighthouse. There was an access road (sand) parallel to the beach from the parking lot and we'd head up the dunes. There used to be a big bowl called the Coliseum. Good ole days.

The Coliseum is still there. Unsure if the road is or not. I do most my riding out Horse Fall, Hauser and down to Spin Reel.
