I'm pretty sure... I stuck my ear there and in the corners a handful of times and it seems there is sound coming out. I may pry it open and see what's in there.

    Meanwhile it's killing me.

Looking at ********* is inspirational, but the speakers they kit up get bad, mediocre at best, reviews everywhere you buy speakers. I like the idea it is plug/play and factory stuff could be put back in, though... I plan on keeping this truck until my 7 year old drives it to death one day. With that, I really shouldn't worry too much about keeping the factory capability intact.

You definitely have corner speakers. I’d be somewhat surprised if you have a center speaker under that grill.

So, what speaker can I easily put in the corners? Any clue?

I believe Memphis Audio makes one that’s 2-3/4” or so that fits there.

Seems pretty common for guys to install components in the doors, put the tweeter in the sail panel and disconnect those small speakers. That’s what I did and I’m happy with the decision.

You can do what I did...I took out the corner tweeter speakers and bought the sail panels that have a place for your new tweeters. Some people have drilled holes for their tweeters using their existing ones but seeing how cheap they are to buy I just ordered some from @Roman.

    I bought several speakers today...
Infinity Kappa 62.11i for the front doors (2ohms)
Infinity Primus PR5010cs for the back doors (2.7ohms)
Infinity Reference REF-3022cfx for the center speaker (which I confirmed was there) (3ohms).

I'm going to see if they are loud enough without an amp upgrade first.

I probably will end up disconnecting the dash corners as they seem to be the source of the grainy/tinny problem.

I got quoted today at my local audio shop for 1100 for all four speakers JL brand and an amp. This guy has been around for ages. He told me without the amp you minds well leave the stock speakers. Is this true not a big audio guy. Was just gonna buy everything from james anyway.

You can easily install the tweeters in the sail panels without spending extra money for new sail panels. Just cut holes to fit the tweeters. Not difficult to do.

I'm in the same boat, don't know if speakers are enough to make a difference. I don't need volume, I need quality. Regardless, the speakers are def diy-able so I'll knock that out. If I need an amp after, that's a little more involved and I'll figure out how to do it or have someone do it then. I'll post an update after I install the speakers. Might be a week or so.

The amp gives clearer sound with the new speakers. You will save yourself some time and money by doing both of them at the same time.

I cant remember i think c1 650 or something like that. But he was pretty stern on the speakers being of no use without an upgraded amp. He said thats a toyota cheap with their radio coponents.

Image Dynamics Speakers are any good? I can't find them anywhere to go and listen to.

I think I'll eventually go the amp route. I've heard several times I'd save money to do it at the same time, but I'm not sure how. I may hire someone to put the amp in, but not the speakers. ********* has a video that shows the amp setup very clearly, which makes them an interesting choice. Just not sure about their gear.

Been a while, but I can say that I upgraded my front and rear door speakers. I'm still not happy. I think I need a sub, I just have zero low end. I'm an adult and definitely not a thmpin'-sub-in-my-truck kind of guy, but because I'm a musician I just can't feel the sound with the mix that I expect. I have to decide if I'm going to install the amp myself or farm that out. Would kind of love to have a powered sub to throw in there as a start.

    Any opinions on that route?

Mine is non-jbl and the center dash is powered off of the HU. I have replaced all other speakers and put amps in as well and the bluetooth audio still comes in over the center speaker that I left in for that reason alone...

this is really the best advice here, from Joe. if the audio system is bothering you, and you are contemplating to dig into the HU, speakers or amp, might as well just do it all in one shot and be done with it. Keeping any one component of the stock system will always be a compromise.

an old post in this thread mentioned keeping center speaker because bluetooth calls, i dont think that's a good enough reason to keep that speaker in the system, only muddying the waters. our music comes in stereo, the center channel serves no purpose but to distort the L/R sound stage. your audio calls will sound just fine coming through the front channels (most HUs will not use rear channels for phone calls).

there is so much room under the passenger seat, its easy to get a nice 5 channel amp in there and achieve a very clean install, hardware and sound wise.

if it's "better" sound quality your looking for, why wouldn't you just install a new amp to power the stock speakers? I guarantee that this will make much more of a difference vs just changing out the speakers but keeping the HU as the main power supply to the speakers. you would just need to buy a new amp and some plug and play harnesses. much cheaper than buying all new speakers, and install time would be less also. just a thought.

not sure you would think that way if you saw the OEM speakers outside the door. I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard someone say to get decent speakers

haha, trust me, I've seen the paper OEM speakers. I recently upgraded my sound system with a ********* package, and I never looked back! What I'm saying is, if you JUST replace the speakers, it will still sound like shit because the same amount of power is going to them. no matter what brand speaker you buy, no matter how expensive they are, they still wont be getting the power they need to sound good. which is why I was saying, if your plan is to JUST replace speakers, you're better off JUST installing a new amp and keeping the OEM speakers. now, obviously you wont be bumping through the neighborhood, but it would still sound better than a speaker replacement.

Definitely best option is aftermarket amp and speakers. The Infinity's I have are high efficiency but even then they still need more power. I am trying to decide if I am going to replace rears next. I never have passengers so amp may be next step. On the OEM speakers it is not just the cones. The magnets are paper thin too.

    Some stuff
I had non-JBL and there was a center speaker in the dash. I pulled all three dash speakers and did not replace them.

I got two sets of Rockford components. Tweeters went into the sails in front and into the factory locations on the rear doors. Reads needed a little nip and tuck along with some gorilla glue. Crossovers are in the doors. Sub box came from tech12volts and it fits a single 12. I’m using a 1000w, 5 channel Rockford amp along with a FiX and a Twk. Powered everything on earlier this afternoon and even without a full tune on the TwK it’s amazing. No hiss either like others have mentioned.

If you don’t have a JBL, the wiring is easier and you can totally yank the box under the passenger seat. Tech12Volts sells non-JBL harnesses. Super easy to wire up and I posted the wiring diagram a few days ago. You only need the signal wires not the speaker output ones. One harness is dedicated to the ground, constant 12v and switched 12v. I believe James also has harnesses for factory wiring to aftermarket speakers. I pulled all new speaker wire since I was installing crossovers as well.

What was the issue with the rear speakers? I am in the process of upgrading the stereo and want to avoid any issues with the fit and finish.
Also, looking at the wire harness. You mentioned needing signal wires not speaker out. Please elaborate? I am looking to add a powered sub so I am only going with a small 4 channel amp and polk audio components for front and back.

    Thanks.
