New to the forum and looking for a little help please.

    Just purchased my 2nd Tundra...

most recently... 2018 SR5 TRD OFF ROAD CREWMAX

    I purchased the following from the dealer;

    3/1 leveling kit
    Fuel rims ( vapor D560 20X9 )
BF Goodrich TA KO2 TIRES 285-55-20
TRD pro grill ( to complete the blackout)

Dealer called me yesterday and said they could not install the new rims and tires due to the safety sense feature. There was no calibration available and that they had received a memo from Toyota advising a lift would present a liability to Toyota.

Tried to have it installed at 4 wheel parts directly and they said I would receive an error message.

I would not have purchased this truck if simple mods were going to be an issue.

Also, 2018 TRD pro grill with safety sense lens is not avail yet.. ( i can live without it)

Thank you for any help / advice.

You can calibrate it with a 3” lift. I just confirmed this last night with my Toyota dealer buddy who is a diehard Tundra fan

Mine has been at 4”, 3”, and 2.5”. Everything has worked same as stock, no warning lights, nothing. I actually tried documenting any variances, but I could not compile any data(limited ability mind you) to support any difference. I think the parameters on the lane assist are slightly tighter, but that is a non-issue for me. Just my experience, and I have the full safety package.

The only thing that won’t work is the grill. There have been posts here of people with a 3/1 lift and all the safty stuff working. Toyota does not even want you leveling the truck but I can tell you it works fine leveled.

Also per Toyota’s memo a safty sense comparable pro grill is being released 2019 model year.

I have the same truck with similar rims and the exact same tires. Asked the dealer this past Thursday about the PRO grill and leveling kit and they told me that the Safety Sense would not work (because of the grill) but had no problem with a leveling kit install. Hopefully someone will release an aftermarket work around for the grill / TSS issue. I would think it could be relocated.

So, I was just told by Toyota of Orlando that a leveling kit cannot be added to my 2018 Tundra due to the PCS radar. Sounds like some of you have actually had the leveling done by a dealership?

Well, there is an issue with the PCS. It isn't only on levelled Tundras, it happened to someone that had a stock one as well. It throws all errors associated with Smart Sense. PCS, VSC, Trailer brakes, etc. I purchased my truck 12-14 and have had it for a total of 6 days.m, since then. There is another thread titled "VSC trouble with a 3-1", where the OP, finally had his SRS (airbag) ECU replaced. Mine hasn't made it to that level of escalation yet, currently getting the sensor replaced.

Can confirm there is a known defect/issue with 2018 airbag ECU causing 'Pre-collision system' and 'Trailer Brake' warning lights. Just got mine fixed at the dealer today.

Did the dealer say anything or indicate how widespread the SRS ECU issue is? I have a 2018. No problems yet but I'm wondering what the odds are.

They didn't share anything too specific, but it seems fairly widespread based on some anecdotal evidence. Initially, the part was backordered (indicating high demand), and would take 2 weeks to arrive. Dealer calls the next day and says they suddenly have the part and could do the replacement asap, seems to me Toyota sent a bunch of them out to dealers. The warning messages were appearing before installing 2.5" lift, which I will probably remove after reading how shady spacer lift kits are.

    Hope this helps

Lane assist and radar can be turned off if that helps. I leave lane assist off on mine and hold the cruise button down until radar turns off each time I get ready to set it.

I had all my work done at a Toyota dealership with zero issues. Might have to find a different dealer to do the work. They are out there!

So, I got my truck back Monday. They replaced my SRS airbag assy, this fixed my problem of everything going crazy. Although I have been having the PCS issue, saying unavailable, and to clean sensor. I was advised over 95 things could cause this to happen and no fix has been found yet. They also tried blaming my level kit. Hopefully they will soon tell me to bring it in for the ECU fix20180112_160851.jpg

My Platinum is bone stock. I started noticing that the PCS was intermittently turned off via the amber dash light, but I haven't noticed the ""Pre-Collision System Unavailable. Clean Sensor" message. The sensor is clean and is not dirty whatsoever.

It happens really fast, the notice is on for maybe 10 seconds. I'd be willing to bet you are experiencing the same thing. Did you check and see if your pre collision is actually working? Put it in drive and have someone throw a pillow (anything big and soft) across the front of your truck. See if you get any warnings.

Ok. Once I figure out how to add a video, I can show you my issue. Randomly, mostly in the afternoon, I will leave work or home. Then the PCS light will come on, and if I activate radar cruise, and set it, it kicks me out and throws a warning for radar sensor. My trucks stays immaculate. So go to dealer, and they can't pull a code. Told that if happens again, get to dealer with warning lights still active. So I try one day, but 1/4 mile away PCS and radar go normal. No codes. So I elevate this to service manager, showing hime the videos of it occurring as I was driving to the dealer. They of course can't do shit without a code recorded. So, I elevate it to the region. Have a regional tech coming down January 9th, who supposedly experiences the same thing.

Pisses me off, as my 14 never had an issue other than rear camera mount breaking. I feel crazy, suspecting the air port doppler radar may be causing it, or aliens. Lol. But I get the dumbest look from the dealer tech's since their computer doesn't show anything. Lol.

However, it hasn't happened in a few days since our temps have been below 50 or so. Wonder if having a sun shield up, and a warmer days is causing it. Dunno. But I do know I am not living with it.

I've pulled over and shut truck down to reset the systems, but one time it had no effect. It seems to last about 5 miles worth of driving, then rectify itself.

January 9th, Regional Tech had nothing to add other than order new sensor up front but it is on back order. Haven't experienced this issue since 12/22/17.

I have had my truck 3 weeks and at 1,200 miles my truck has had the same issues. The dealer offered to take it in, but I’m waiting. I have a feeling so many trucks are having the same issues, it would be best a recall is issued. That way “diagnostics” and all that other shop BS is avoided. . . Best truck I’ve ever driven. I trust Toyota over my last mistake.... DODGE 2500!

My PCS warning was on this morning because I still had some frost covering the camera area of the front windshield. I wiped the area clean....problem solved.

I received a letter from Toyota yesterday advising that there is an issue with the Event Data Recorder on several Toyota models (including the Tundra) and that Toyota will fix the issue by updating the Airbag ECU software (at no charge). I wonder if this might be related to the issue that other owners had the required an SRS ECU replacement.

I don't think it has anything to do with it. The data event recorder is just recording what you did right before an impact/accident like brake force applied, steering wheel angle, etc. Law enforcement can access it under certain circumstances and use the information to determine your fault (if any).

You can see the notice on the Toyota Owner site under recalls; if you have an account it is on your vehicle page if it applies to your truck.

From what i've seen, any little thing will interefere with PCS. Rain, frost, ice, dirt/bugs on windshield. Mine comes on from time to time but ends up going off soon there after. I just live with it. Toyota must not have put too much R&D into this feature.

That's true, the letter states that the issue is with the Event Data Recorder (EDR); the letter also states that the dealer will fix the issue by updating the Airbag ECU software in order to correct the problem. I interpret that to mean that the Airbag ECU software does have an issue that needs to be corrected. Whether or not this issue is related to any of the problems that other posters have described is questionable but does make me wonder if there might be any relation between the two.

Here is a scan of the body of the letter requested by Larmand:
