Well thank you for your service. I hope you find what you’re looking for. Keep looking and don’t be afraid to try something that you wouldn’t think you could get. The job I have now I didn’t even think I would get the job but I decided to give it 100% just in case.
I ended up being the number one pick out of 30. I have been trying to get a city or school district job for over 10 years now. I was notified every time a job in the description I asked for would come up. I would put in an application and hear nothing back. Then boom up one day it fell in my lap. It happened so fast I had to decide on the spot whether I was going to take over a plumbing company or take mediocre job for the government. And here I am today and I love my job! Good luck!

I am a civil servant working for the AF for the past 36 years.

Overhauled generators initially and after a few years moved over to designing/drafting MFG fixtures (anybody remember CADDS 4X systems?). Our base became a victim of the BRAC process and the AF moved us to AZ in '96 where I initially did warehouse automation. Did that for a few years and got myself mixed up with the IT side of the house, which is what I do now.

I’m a Commercial Transport Technician. There’s nothing on semi truck or logging truck I haven’t repaired over the years, other than the loose nut behind the wheel.:D

A year and a half ago I was “done” with it all, the constant pressure, the stress of something going wrong with an engine overhaul with $30+K engines...so I quit my job (kept my tools) and worked on a sub-contract basis for my contractor friend who specializes in siding and exterior finishing, Hardie plank, shake... I’d helped him out on my days off in the past, so it wasn’t a total surprise what I was in for.

I really enjoyed it at first, but by the time the middle of winter hit, I knew it wasn’t for me. And I was watching my bank account go into cardiac arrest, as it’s hard to be productive when your soaked and freezing.

I’ve since gone back to what I know and do well, and strangely enough, I enjoy it more again after that experience. I’m not at all sorry I tried it. I now have a great paying job in a dealership, a different branch of a company I’d worked for in another town in years past.

I’m at the combine plant, designing processes for factory assembly and welding. We struggle the same as the field techs in a lot of instances.

@Vendeta2k I would love to get back into it but its hard in Delaware. Low pay scales and hard to be a forester unless you have the degree and experience before you apply.

I work for the state of Maryland and might get my red card this year and see if I can go out but rather find a full time forest service job.

Just accepted a promotion, effective Jan 1, as a Global Product Trainer attached to R&D. I get to come along for the ride when developing new software and machines, then develop training materials so we can successfully hand responsibility off to Operations.

I'm used to traveling the country non-stop, but now I get to make quarterly trips to Sweden where we do a lot of hardware R&D, and occasional trips to Australia, Costa Rica, and Germany where we deploy machines. We're just getting in to Japan so that may be a possibility as well.

Pretty excited to fully transition in to this new role. :D
