Hey did the cost of renewing our truck registration just get more expensive in Cali? About how much does it usually cost to renew the tundra registration

I don't live in CA but I heard effective Jan 1 you guys were hit with some kind of $175 registration tax and another $0.12 per gallon gas tax.

    I could be wrong though.

    Yes it did.
I just had to register my commuter car (2006 Toyota Matrix) and it went up from $90 to $125. I remember hearing that there was a % increase up to a certain $ amount.

I feel for you Joon. Below is the fee structure for the tax.

Jan. 1, 2018: People will pay a new “transportation improvement fee” ranging from $25 to $175, depending on the value of their vehicle:

    Up to$4,999 = $25

    $5,000-$24,999 = $50

    $25,000-$34,999 = $100

    $35,000-$59,999 = $150

    $60,000 and up = $175

The fee will be adjusted for inflation beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

    Estimated revenue: $1.6 billion

    My 2017 registration was $480.

Not sure if this is up or down as it's the first year I've owned the truck.

This is nothing more than a luxury tax and it's bullshit. A $100,000 Porsche does no more damage to the road than a $4,000 '81 1/2 ton pickup. I'm ready to leave the place I've called home for the last 36 years over this and many, many other forms of BS this state continues to shove down our throats.

CA also registers all open bed pickups as commercial vehicles so they screw You on that front too.

ya'll must have very good reasons for staying there and putting up with that crap. I know I live in the "dirty south", but it's all I've ever known, so I don't know what I'm missing out on. But I do know this: I have no vehicle inspection, no smog inspection, and registration is $21/yr regardless of vehicle value (+$35/yr for vanity plate). So, I pay $112/yr for 2 vehicles...oh, and my boat trailer is $12/yr.

Hmmmm... Nope! I can't think of any good reason :notsure:

Haha just joking. I stay because I was born and raised here, all my family is here, weather is 70 degrees year round. This state is making it harder and harder to stick around. If it wasn't for my family I'd probably be gone.

it wasn't that hard for us. life was too expensive there and we wanted more for our kids. decision was simple. we've been in CO almost 6 years now and i've only been back for work. i don't miss anything about it. bec occasionally misses the beach.

Because California taxes the shit out of everything!

There's a proposal to tax residents for every mile driven, too!
