    Hi All

New Tundra 2018 crewmax owner here, my first ever truck. I'm very happy! I am looking for a tonneau cover and my colleague who has an F-150 recommended this one. However, it brings up an error message that it doesn't fit with railsystem? Being completely new to truck ownership I am not even sure what this is.

I am looking for a reasonably water tight cover than is soft, rolls up and doesn't require me to drill holes in the bed to install. Any recommendations or inputs would be greatly appreciate!

Revolver X4 is the new matte black with a different surface, I am looking at this one instead of a Solid Fold 2.0

thanks for the quick reply guys, how do much do you find the fitting offsets the tundra rail system? I also have a divider and I'm concerned it might not fit once I have installed an X2/4 due to the re-mounting of the rails.

The Revolver works with the track system with no relocation, thats one of the attractions I see in it, coupled with no seems going across the cover.

Foldable Hard Cover the Leer Trilogy is easily removable. The Trilogy XT2 uses a rail system, and is compatible with the track system.

Ok thanks, but when I look at the installation instructions for the revolver it shows the S shaped bracket offsetting the position of the original rail system, or have I miss-understood the installation?

There are two models, one for the track system and one without. Check the instructions on the unit compatible with the track system, I called Bak and asked them about the unit, and the track system didn't either have to be removed or moved.

I looked at the Diamondback it is quite pricey. Can you provide feedback on the unit? Water intrusion, quality, ease of use, easy to install?

Yep that is my fear with it and then other accessories like dividers will no longer fit correctly under neath it so it becomes just a place to mount the cleats....

It is good to know, because in speaking with Bak, they stated the rails didn't have to be relocated. I was quizzing the on the new X4

I agree. The rails move down about an inch or so I doubt the bed divider will fit right after but you'd have to measure.

If you check the installation instruction pdf on their website specific for the X2 it shows that they have to be removed and are then re-positioned.

Installing was a little tedious as you have to be careful about not bending the tabs on the hinges. Other than that the install was easy. Another note is when you flip the cover fully back, you have to be careful that it does not slide because if it does, and you don’t notices, it will bend the tabs on the hinges when you go to close the cover. As for water tight, I do leak a bit but I have not had a chance to re-tweak the cover. I have read that other owners of the cover have not had any leaks.

As for construction it’s a tank. No need to relocate your rail system. The cover uses the rail system to hold the unit in place.

For the money it seems strange that the tabs on the hinges would be so weak!

I think I will go for the SR1 from Gator it is nicely within budget and they will guarantee a fit with delivery as well, so I will give it a go. Speaking of price wise it is one of the cheapest I could find in general. I am sure there are much better quality covers out there but I will try this one and then let everyone know how it works out!

@strategeist yes it is strange but it did happen when I closed the lid. Think I still have the hinges that are bent. Let me see if I can dig them up and post a picture of the bent tabs.

Just got off the phone with a Tech at BAK, so sad. He said all of Bak's tops require the lowering of the Toyota Factory Rail System. I asked him why if you are the company can you not manufacture a bracket which is lower and correct Bak's engineering issue, no comment.

yep, they lower it to make room for their rail so it has more of a flush fit with the sides of the truck, I haven't looked at a cover yet in detail but I expect that this is the case for all and it's just a question of physical space available.

There are a lot of bed cover options and many of the covers utilize the bed rails for installation. I recently installed the Diamondback SE on my truck. It mounts to the bed rails and it was very easy to install. I would pick a cover that utilizes the existing rails for mounting; there are still a lot of options even with the bed rail mount restriction / requirement. BTW, I also liked the Gatortrax and Rototrax covers - they roll up, use the bed rails for mounting and looked really good to me although you may not be interested if you are set on a soft top. Good luck with your search.

Lomax hard folding cover looks interesting. The guy from Lomax emailed me the install guide.
