New 2015 Tundra owner, coming from a Jeep Wrangler Limited. Was curious as we get closer to the winter months here how the Tundra does in snow? This is my first full size pick-up truck but have owned numerous 4WD vehicles over the years.

Any specifics also as relate to what most refer to as the "nanny" features for going up slippery snow covered hills?

Do most find you need to add weight to the bed in winter, or just drive it as it is?

    Thanks for any input.

No issues here. Tires and knowing how to drive in the snow do wonders ;)

With a crewmax shortbed your weight is distributed alot more even so there really isnt a need to add weight in the back in my opinion. Truck handles great in the snow.

Welcome to the site. Cant help with the snow question as we usually only get ice here in SC. If it snows, its gone the next day.

That is good to hear. Still getting used to driving the Tundra. It feels really big still compared to the Jeep, but love the HP. Thanks.

Not so sure about "a lot more". Distributed in what way? 1 foot longer cab? DC frame/6.5ft is the same weight/length. One foot cab difference isn't going to make much difference. It's all about the actual weight over the rear diff. Science/Physics facts should come into play. I agree, my Tundra kicks ass pretty much anywhere. The more weight in the rear , the better. IMO

Compared to my Access cab tacoma the tundra has more 2wd rear traction. More than my dads old Cummings ram with topper. Def way more than the 87 2wd pickup I had. Only comparison I have truck wise in snow.

4wd is unstoppable. I'll flip to 4 high when the streets are packed with snow. Needed when stopped on an incline for sure.

Back in the day, maybe 1975, my friend Walter had a beater 69 GMC 2WD with 8 foot bed. During hunting season we would load up the bed with a bunch of sand bags and hit the old muddy, rutted out logging roads . It was amazing where that truck could go.

On most the time. Typically hit the button so it shows auto lsd. When I put it in 4wd it's left on whatever is standard.

Got the 2014 DC 8' bed. Stock 18" tires and never had a problem in the snow. I take off the nanny's just to have a little fun some times. Just bought a single cab 8' bed 2014 with plow haven't had it out in the snow yet. I take the rims and tires off in winter and put stock ones back on. My buddy took that picture with his drone

this might be completely obvious to some but after 2 weekends of hunting on snow/ice covered canadian roads i'm going to have go ahead and warn anyone that plans on running stock tires that they're going to be disappointed.
i bought some new bfg at ko2's on thursday that i hoped to have on the truck this weekend but my shop dragged ass and guess who was stuck 20 mins into hunting this morning? lol

You guy's get alot more snow than we do here in Jersey. I did order some straight up snow tires for the plow truck . my DC wiont see much snow. I'll be plowing in the single cab. But like I said in nee jersey I haven't had problems with stick tires. Sean266 if you are high centered tires won't make much of a difference at that point. I sure you know that . yes out by you a good tire will make a difference. Quick question , why didn't you just pull it out ? You look like you are built like an ox

He is talking about the traction control button. All I can say is go out in the snow and play with your new toy and figure out what you like best for driving in the snow. As you are coming from other 4x4's I am sure you will figure it out.

Will do, the Taco was great in snow, only had to put it in 4H once and that was when the snow was coming down so hard the plows couldn't keep up with it.

Ya, I wasnt completely high centered..my rears were making contact with the snow...just digging a deeper hole...I tried branches in front, rocks, etc.

LOL...If I wasnt rescued by another Toyota with a winch, I would have tried pushing it from the back with the wife in the front seat.

We've had maybe 3'ish inches snow lately during snow fall and I haven't "had to" use 4wd yet with these Nitto Terra G2's. We are supposed to get another 1-3" of snow tonight into tomorrow.

I was up getting a Xmas tree yesterday way back up above Central City/Blackhawk. I was still able to get fairly close to my friends property. Probably a foot of snow on the road once you get above 10,000 ft level. I spent a lot of time playing around in the snow. Truck performs way better with nannies off in 4 HI. 4 low overrides nannies but most gears too low for playing in the snow. One thing I noticed is how borderline worthless the computer controlled "limited slip" really is on our trucks. At least in deep snow. There was a fairly new Silverado up there with the Eaton auto limited slip in the rear. He was having more fun. Getting better traction with similar tires. I noticed this same bs with my 09 Tacoma in Anchorage which included 7 months driving in snow conditions almost everyday. My observations are not based on a "one off" one time deal. If our fake "limited slip" were such a great thing then every other truck mfr would be using it. The Auburn Pro LSD was high on my "still to do" list. It is now off the list. No more playin around. ARB Air Locker will be my next major (to me) upgrade. I four wheel a lot (going back up today) and I want those 4X4 badges on my truck to actually mean something.
