So I just changed out my 37/13.5/22 Toyo Open Country MT with a brand new set of tires. My old tires had about 40% of tread left on them. I just sold my old set of tires for $800 cash. So I'm curious how many other people sell their old take offs? Here's a pic of my old tires I just sold. IMG_1760.jpg

Also curious if people know when they buy a new truck with aftermarket wheels & tires they should also be getting the stock rim & tires. I'm amazed how many set of rims and tires are stock piled from dealerships that customers paid for. Typically the dealership puts them on another model of truck and they make money off of the rims and tires from the other new vehicles rims and tires.

I didn't think about it until a buddy of mine from the dealer told me how they reuse the factory wheels and tires. It's amazing how many people take a new vehicle to get a lift and tires put on and never think to ask for their OEM wheels back.

That’s awesome but I’m really surprised someone paid 800 bucks for a set with 40 percent tread remaining. If you have 800 bucks why not save a few hundred more and just get new tires? Damn!

I always wondered that, you see these dealer customized trucks with huge mark-ups for custom wheels, but you don't ever see a credit for the stock wheels & tires. I understand a lot of people don't have room to keep the stocks, but you could literally stop at the 1st tire shop you see and sell your brand new used tires to them for a few hundred bucks easily. Sure you can get more if you have room to hang on to them, but if you don't have room, a few hundred bucks in your pocket is better than it being in the dealerships pocket.

I sell my used tires if I don’t wear them all the way down. Sold plenty in the past. Drove my last duratracs in the ground through and ended up dropping them off at Costco and paying $1 each for them to recycle them.

I think about the dealership wheel/tire thing all the time. If you upgrade your wheels and or tires the cost they show you is the full price. They don’t deduct the price of the stock wheels and tires. Always best to get the cheapest wheels and tires when getting a new truck and then buying aftermarket outside of the dealership. Sell the stock wheels and tires to get a little back.

Good post 1UPPER, I will be moving up to 295/70/18, so my 265/ 70/18 will have some decent tread. If I could get $100 that will be nice.

Got it. That is a pricey set of tires for sure. I couldn’t blow 8 bills on used tread but it’s sweet you got that for them.
What would be a good price to ask for the stock Michelin’s with 7000 miles on them? I’m thinking of moving to Ridge Grapplers.

Unfortunately my stock tires are worn all the way down, so they’re not worth selling. Will definitely be selling my stock wheels though. My dealer who put on my new wheels and tires just threw mine in the back of the pickup when I picked it up.

I sell my old ones as long as they have some tread left and are safe to use. Lots of people looking for stop gap tires for cheap to use until they can afford a brand new set. I sold a set of BFG A/T with about 20% tread left and a slow leak in one tire for $100. I then sold a set of Toyo Open Country WLT1 winters with about 80% tread for $150.

I never have nor will I ever accept after market wheels and tires from a dealership. When I bought my last truck (POS Ford Fucked150) it had a leveling kit, Bushwhacker fender flairs and aftermarket wheels and tires. The leveling kit was fine with me, but the tires, wheels and flairs had to go. I did a quick price check online for the wheels and tires and they came to about $3000 if I were to buy similar myself. I asked the dealer how much they'd knock off the price of the truck if they put factory wheels and tires on and removed the flairs. They knocked $5000 and left the flairs on. Deal.

I later pulled the flairs off and sold them for $250. I doing so, I discovered the hidden damage the dealership was covering up with them but that's another story...

I would try and post them on Craigslist for 70% of what you paid for them. People often will offer you less than what you list them for. I just lucked out the guy didn't even ask me if I would sell them for less. He paid what I asked.

I sold my Nitto Trail Grapplers. Still had 1/4, actually a little less than that. $400. Wanted STT pro's asap. Buyer sent his sons to pick them up. They drove all the way from Estes Park. In a freaking KIA Accent!!!! We actually crammed three tires in the car. One in the front passenger seat, two in the back with barely enough room for one of the brothers to fit. The fourth was pretty much hanging out of the tiny trunk. 1 small bungie (which I happily donated) keeping it in place. Must have been a sweet ride back up to Estes Park.................Father was Exec Chef at..............[IMG]...[IMG]

Nice! I’ll do that. They were the stocks but the tire sells for around 260. Maybe I’ll ask 700 and see what happens.
I did notice you are running 22s. Never priced that size but obviously they are expensive.
Thanks for bringing this up. It helps me make the decision to upgrade to what I want.

Anytime you go with a bigger rim the the tire companies price goes way up! So a 37" tire for an 18" rim is considerably less expensive than a 37" tire for a 22" rim. Crazy because they actually have less rubber on the tires for larger wheels.

I want to upgrade the wheels as well but I’m trying to get educated on offsets/ hub centric etc. I’ll try to unload the wheels as well. Wonder if it’s better to sell as a set or just sell the wheels and tires separate?

It really just depends on the buyer you get. Personally I would try and sell the wheels and tires as a set. Makes it a lot easier for you. I wouldn't post them until you have your new wheels on though. Make sure and have your Pressure sensors removed from your stock wheels if you have them.

Sold my stock tires with about 5k on them for $400. About half price from new so the buyer was excited and didn’t even try to negotiate.
