Hello everyone!! I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra with 91k miles on it that has no warranty and the cam shaft tower seal was leaking ( VERY VERY COMMON). Its a freaking Toyota 91k miles isnt shi* on them and a dang seal should not be leaking so i called Toyota of America 1-800-331-4331 and complained like hell and Toyota called me back telling me to take my truck to my local dealership to have them diagnose the problem so i did. Toyota then called me back and they fixed my truck for free!!! 3500 dollar fix all i had to pay was 26 bucks for the seal. before you pay to have your truck fixed call Toyota and raise pure hell and tell them look im a dang Toyota lover and this is bull and do NOT GIVE UP on pushing the issue they will fix it!!!

Thanks for the info, I got a 2014 with 47,500 miles no cam tower problems yet. Makes me want to get extended warranty just in case I call Toyota and it won’t be as good as it turned out for you. But I’ve read somewhere Toyota covered it on warranty because it became a frequent problem, I gotta find it and try to post it on here......

when does your factory warranty run out? the cam towers are known to start leaking around 60-70 thousand miles if there not leaking by that time then sounds like your good to go. im not sure what an extended warranty would cost you but to fix the cam towers is $3,500

i would be looking really close around the 60k mark before buying an extended warranty. A LOT of extended warranty's do not cover oil leaks i would ask that very specific question before buying it. i was going to buy an extended warranty but everyone that i seen did not cover oil leaks and thats what i wanted fixed.

Yea I researched hard on it, I cringe every time someone says “it’s a Toyota it’ll never have problems” but I wanted an extended warranty for a piece of mind when something does happen, but then again nothing might happen and by that time when it does I can whip out the dusty old credit card to get some credit points instead of buying the warranty.....

ohh ya its a Toyota thats why i didnt buy the extended warranty i know for a FACT toyota's extended warranty does not cover oil leaks. knock on wood i have 3 toyota with over 250k miles and the only things i have done is batteries. i have a 99 4runner with the 3.4 with 322,574 miles on it and the ONLY thing that has ever been changed on it is batteries and i did have the timing belt replaced at 200k

No one is going to mention that there isn't actually a seal there? They owe you $26.

FWIW, the parts listed in my Cam Tower Leak repair were:
    Oil Filter
    Engine Oil
    Oil Pan Drain Plug Gasket
FIPG (Formed In Place Gasket) Oil Pan
    Camshaft Bearing Gasket
    Super Long Life Coolant

Kinda seems like it could be incomplete, no rational reason why though.:notsure:

Look down onto the valve covers and you'll see oil weeping out the the area if they are leaking. You can also look thru the wheel well. I noticed mine on my 2012 when I smelled it getting out of the truck.

I'm glad I saw this thread and starting doing additional research on this problem. I looked at my truck two nights ago and my driver's side tower seal on my 2015 5.7L is starting to leak. At this point it is very minor, only a little line of oil about 1 inch long along the seal. So I went to the dealership first thing yesterday morning and their lead mechanic visually confirmed it is leaking. Going back in about 1.5 weeks to get both sides replaced and will be covered under warranty as I only have 57,200 miles on the truck.

No one really seems to know for sure. 2015 is the latest that I've read about. We just have to wait and see as we hear from owners that report on what they're finding as they check their trucks.

Edit: Okay, @TRD423 excepted. Posting at the same time, lol.
