Bully Dog BDX tuner

curious if any of you guys/gals have used or checked into the bully dog bdx tuner. Supposedly it works for gen 3 models and works via wifi so basically plug&play. I'm interested just nervous about tuners

I've actually dyno tested nearly every configuration of BullyDog and beta tested the tune they make for long tube headers. It does what they say and then some. Definitely worth it.

 

@dirtydeeds - Whats the difference between the BDX and the GT? Is there any reason to get the GT one the BDX? This application will be for a N/A 2016 5.7L. From what I've seen, it seems the BDX is way easier to install so thats definitely a PRO.

 

Bdx is definitely easier to install. And a way nicer display. It's more like an I phone rather than a flip phone with 4T. Ha

 

BD site says it only works up to 2015. I have a 2016 Gas, do you know if it will work on my Truck?

Makes my truck feel a bit peppier. I'm running it on the performance tune and it requires premium gas.

I have it and even on the 87 tune the truck feels better. I’m running stock throttle map so I know that’s not making me think it’s better.

Did you try it w 87 tune? I’m wondering if it’s worth it for me to change it to the 91 tune.

 

No, I haven't yet. I'm thinking your tune might be a better route for me since premium is .40/gal more.

 

@dirtydeeds what’s your take on the difference between the 87/91 tune? I’m talking about drivability and not wot driving.

 

either setting is more peppy than stock. Just wakes up the truck a little bit.

For daily driving I would run 87. But switch on Thursday for the weekend

Been running the bullydog gt for more then a month now. Definitley makes it waaaaay more fun to drive. First I tried regular gas tune with performance throttle and shift points. Then I uninstalled the tune to take it in for first oil change, and wow what a dog the truck is stock....then I filled her up with 91 and installed the premium tune, with performance throttle and shift points. Gave the truck even more power (as calibrated by my seat of the pants dyno). I'm looking forward to the orangevirus release and the ability to be able to build my own custom tune.

 

Is the 91 tune worth the extra $$$?

 

You mean extra $$ for gas? If so I vote yes. Better performance with the tuner, and for me, better price of mind knowing I'm running better fuel.

 

Sweet. Do you feel the diff even at partial throttle? Or do you think it’s the aggressive throttle map that makes you think it? You should try it w stock throttle mappping.

 

I feel the difference at partial throttle but I haven't tried any throttle setting other then performance. It's like toe haul mode but more power, and better shift points.

I wish there were more options to mess with but other then that it's pretty simple install, customer service is great. Just be sure to have a battery charger hooked up when pushing tunes and do it during business hours and make sure you have your computer nearby. First time I had to call because I ran into an issue on the install but they remoted into my computer and got everything where it needed to be. I like how you can customize the gage setup and layout. I have mine currently showing intake temp, trans temp, coolant temp, and pyro. I'm interested in checking out DAP as well, but I'm even more interested in the new orangevirus that was supposed to be released already.

Regular tune I am guessing is 89 octane where premium tune is for 93?
I am looking to get a little more mpg out of the truck but where I live it's a bit windy and I am on 35s so I am guessing I am fighting an uphill battle.

Would I cause damage if premium tune was ran using 89 or 91octane at the least?

I can't break 13mpg highway. Guess I need to find a job closer to home or move closer to my current one. 80miles a day there and back is killer
