5 days after I bought my truck, I hit a deer. Of course I was pissed for many reasons, but one thing good came out of it - I talked the body shop into ordering me 2018 headlights for replacements. All's well that ends well:

I've almost hit two in the last month, grr, I'm sure it's going to happen eventually. Any pics of the damage prior to removing the grill?

Glad that you got the upgraded lights, kinda worth it.

Oh damn, how fast were you going? Overall, damage seems relatively minor, but I understand that you woulda preferred for it not to happen.

Install some bar lights in them spaces to light up the least chance you get.

Welcome and make the truck better than before

This is one of my biggest fears when it comes to my truck. The deer population around here is getting out of control. So many people won’t allow hunting on their land anymore. “They’re so pretty to look at”. To this I say, they taste a whole lot better than they look. Put more on the table before disease and famine sits in.

The other hazard in regards to deer is tailgating. In the past two months I’ve heard two cars lock brakes behind me when I braked to avoid hitting deer. Gotta leave that space for sudden braking.

You know, a loud exhaust system lets the deer know you are coming and they get out of your way. Just saying that is a great reason for a mod.

I did that too. Crappy thing is I got my exhaust delivered the day after I put the truck in the shop. I got the Flowmaster Outlaw - sounds great

No, no, the deer hit you. Very important distinction to make when making an insurance claim.

I'm new to this whole deer thing, there aren't too many of them in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.. So just wondering what you're supposed to do if you hit one. Are you supposed to call police and file an accident report? Are you supposed to notify wildlife?

Yes contact the local/ state police. We get upset if we have to take it out of its misery, lol lots of paperwork for discharging our weapon (so make sure you get the job done), then contact the insurance. They will ask for the report number so make sure you get that on scene.

Naw, the birds do that. Haha! Couldn't resist. :boink:

It's different place to place but usually, yes, call it in to local L.E. then, in most cases you can keep the deer. You can butcher and keep it or, I know in Northern Idaho, there's a phone tree to notify people who've signed up. They'll come get it. Every bit gets used: humans get the good stuff, dogs the stuff humans don't want to eat.

I know places in WY that cell service doesn't work. So callin it in isn't an immediate option. Neither is a quick ride to an emergency room if people get hurt. Lotta deer bar bumper add-one in those states.
