Lately, I've perceived that the majority of first time threads by new members (<20 posts; no member introduction thread), are searches for specific info on a desired mod. I've also observed that many of these abandon their own thread (and the forum?) soon after posting. So, on the one hand, it seems we're close to getting tipping point numbers of new members but, I'm observing, these numbers aren't "real"; instead, it appears to me, people are signing up to be allowed to post a question, because they haven't found the answer they need by perusing the forum, or using the available search option.

An additional observation is that established members, perhaps exhausted by the numerous duplicate mod question threads, often ignore these threads and don't answer (fair enough; how many times can we expected to answer the same question)... or direct the OP to 'do a search'....

@Almaboy's an active member of this forum. Yet not long ago (after thousands of posts, and months of participation), he posted...
I joined this forum on August 21, and finally, on October 18, after reading widely across all types of topics, and still not having figured out how to search, sent a PM to @joonbug asking for instructions. He sent me a screen shot pic with the tiny magnifying glass circled, that looked very much like this:

Of course, I smacked my head  that I had failed to see this (not-at-all) prominently displayed search icon but, it turns out, I'm not alone...
I've had very little success using the search feature. Because members use all sorts of wording in titles (to grab attention, which makes this forum fun!), as well as misspellings that are not corrected, searches by title often don't yield helpful results. By contrast, searching the body of threads yields thousands of comments, too many to sift through for specific information.

I previously saw, and commented on this same thread awhile back, clearly excited that moderators were offering one thread to be a collection point for related info:
This morning, when another member reactivated this thread by posting a question (great job, attempting to work within an existing thread on your topic!) I re-read this 'what wheels and tire size' thread from the beginning and saw it started with helpful info by a moderator, but lacked follow-up support, i.e. from members posting pics with corresponding wheel/tire/offset/clearance stats, or from anyone "owning" or moderating the thread, so most of the posts by members asking for feedback on their individual questions were left hanging. The lesson, reenforced, seems to be: any time you want a specific answer, gotta start a new thread....

And when this guy suggested a way to increase the usefulness of this thread as a collection point for this info:
    He received the now-customary response:
I love this forum! Initially I loved all the new info available on every topic I could wonder about, related to my new Tundra. Then I got to interacting with other members and love the camaraderie and shenannigans. But, man, it's a bummer that I have to screen shot every good idea, because finding it later is damned near impossible.

Our moderators are fun, friendly, knowledgeable guys who love Tundra trucks! And behind the scenes, I see indications that someone is good with coding and, increasingly, somebody is showing very good vision about how to engage individual vendor employees in a way that is seemless, engaging and fun for members, and will enhance the financial mission of the forum as a business.

I know you guys aren't asking but I'm telling you anyway because I care about the success of this forum and those behind it, it feels like you're approaching a critical juncture in growth of this business. It will not be possible much longer to keep the forum growing based only on fun interactions between staff and members. It seems critical that searches must be made more effective across the forum. I'd suggest, 1. when you take down the holiday presents banner, that you put up a much-more-visible search icon; and, 2. start catagorizing and coding the titles of threads, behind the scenes (even if it is by simply adding a word at the end), and also correcting misspelled words in titles.

I'm not suggesting you make a bunch of rules, or make this like other forums (that suck by comparison IMHO), but it seems like it is time for some heavy lifting behind the scenes to make the view from the front screen work like it should. :benchpress:

I posted this here because 1. this thread exemplifies what I'm talking about; and 2. because I don't desire to post a critical thread or catch the attention of others not tagged herein.

I'm hoping y'all are open to this feedback. To commit to sharing it, I pictured you all seated in a staff meeting talking about plans for the coming year. I'm hoping someone at that table has recognized these issues as shortcomings that could hold this otherwise awesome forum back.
    :crapstorm:

    Love you guys!!:typing::rain::quickdraw::pccoffee:

I’m pretty sure most members feel comfortable enough to utilize a little banter between members to keep this forum entertaining, yet I totally agree with you. The search icon could be a little easier to find upon entering the site for the first time.

I have 2 recommendations that might clean it up a bit from the over abundance of threads dedicated to the same topic:
    1. I’m certainly no coding genius but I bet there’s a way to “force” a brand new person joining to use the search button 5 times before they are “unlocked” to start a thread
    2. Maybe make the search button only applicable to thread titles, rather than every comment that might contain the words someone is searching for

I’m absolutely one to inundate the forum with nonsensical banter, but I also know how to navigate pretty well so the challenge of finding what I’m looking for has started to wane. That doesn’t mean that it’s a perfect system, just that I’ve learned that I might have to take what I can get sometimes.

This forum has provided me with confidence to perform surgery on my own truck, learn about products I’d never heard of before, and has given me way too many hours of entertainment and friends that I’ll never forget. A huge shout out to @Sunnier for initiating this conversation, and as much as I still appreciate everything you guys have provided to the Tundra community, I can certainly envision a few modifications to the site that might even make it greater in my opinion. If my ideas never prove fruitful I’m still here to learn and support new folks that were just as ignorant as I was only 11 months ago

I put 275/60R20 Toyo AT2's on mine about 2 years ago. Like you said, they dont make it in an LT only P. I went ahead and bought them and installed them but I don't think I would do it again. While I like the tire, I really want an LT tire my next go around.

Everyone relax. I see stupid behavior from all ages and all levels of experience. Too often I've seen a perfectly good reply to a forum that has tittle to do with the Topic and vice versa. Some common sense and replying to the correct forums would help a lot. I'll assume a majority of new members who ask questions rather than striking out on their own doing searches are Millennials born from the older members on here. Aka Baby boomers.
Just ignore repeated questions from brand new members. Eventually it works itself out. Just keep the content good and the smartass replies to a minimum. They do little to make this site better.
    Happy NY!!

@csuviper Fine looking result, Brian. Thanks for the good work, Tundras.com team!

But... is it not live yet, or do I need to do something at my end for a newest version? On my side, I still see the magnifying glass only:

I have honestly searched all over the forum for the answer to my question but I can't find any clear answers. If I run a 4.5" coilover BDS lift can I fit 35 inch tires with 22inch rims? The wheels I'm looking at are the Fuel Maverick-D260 22X10 with a -13 offset. I know everyone hates these questions but before I spend a ton of money I like to have a plan. Any help is appreciated.

Not many have 22" wheels or the offset that you are wanting with the wheels sticking out. That may be why you are not receiving a quick answer.
I cannot answer your question without diving in and comparing stock to this. Still would be a guess as i dont have experience.

1st Gen’r here and can attest to the 285/75/r16 slight rub. Been running the stock type shocks all these years and just switched to Bilstein 5100’s with 1” setting up front. Tires barely (but still will at full truns) rub now. Not sure what happened. The alignment seems to have the front tires more vertical? Before they canted out a bit more.

Yea, i guess thats why i haven't found much info. I know alot of people run 20s and 33s, so i wouldn't think 22s and 35s would be so unpopular. Thanks for the response though.

That really only applies to stock wheel backspacing. It's a CYA thing for people who are scared to cut and do CMCs. You can fit 35x12.50x18 on a stock truck with the right rim backspacing and minor trimming.

Anybody running the factory flares and 20s? I've got 1.4 inches lift in front. Looking at mine the tire is never closer than 2.5 inches from the inner fender part of the flare. No worries up front with the bumper. Factory is basically 31.9. Theoretically 34.5 should be clear.

Anybody get the scientific process? Right now it's only a theory. :fingerscrossed:
