So, I went out to dinner tonight with my family and saw an all-white (no chrome) Silverado with the perfect amount of lift (probably around 4"-5") and the perfect rims and tires. After lusting after it in person, I thought about doing a New Year's Eve trade of my new '18 limited for a 6.2L Silverado. Deep down I knew it was Satan trying to tempt me, so I hopped on the GM-trucks forum and did some light reading about the nightmare 8-speed transmission. I had done this research before buying my Tundra, but then when a sexy truck is sitting in front of you it's easy to think unreasonable and impure thoughts. After about 15 minutes on that forum I was off my Silverado kick.

Anyway, now that I'm back to reality, I think I'll go take my cement truck out for a ride and apologize. Feel free to scold/flame me as necessary.

    Almost banned......

Came to ones senses. Seriously can’t get a better 1/2 ton than the Tundra.

I have felt that same temptation; have seen some nice GMC trucks that made me do a double take. But just like marriage, looks at other chicks, wish I could “ride them” but then come to my senses

Stay on the right path brother.

I traded a 2011 Silverado for my tundra and I know what you mean when you say the new ones look pretty damn good. I was tempted to get a new one all the time when I was a member of SilveradoSierra but never did. Then I took my truck in (under warranty) for the famous 5.3l burning oil and was told it was designed to burn a quart every 2000 miles. Never looked at GM again and immediately left there and bought my Tundra.

That's the worst when dealers try to tell you that obvious problems are "totally normal" or "designed that way".

@BuckWallace glad to see you come back to your senses...your story is how I went from a 2001 Tundra to a 2010 and 2014 Silverado and back to a 2016 Tundra (catch my drift?)...stay true and have peace in the new year!

Yes, its normal for GM trucks to use that much oil (I was told the same thing and so was my son). AFM is an engine killer. Also was told that it is normal to have valve / lifter issues at 65K miles and to expect a $3,500 bill to replace the top end every 65K miles. What?

I totally agree. I just purchase a 2004 5.3L LS motor. Good motors without the active fuel management crap.

I equate this to a hot ass girl with no brains or substance and a tundra who is also a hot ass girl, smart, can cook dinner as well as raise children like no other and makes a butt load of money aka wifey material :)

And shame on you @COMiamiFan for feeling the same lol

It's good to hear from people who have already made the "mistakes". I don't think I'd ever actually trade it in (I've never traded—I always sell on my own) due to the fact that I'd be losing enough to make it hurt that much more. My wife would also kill me if I said I wanted a different truck, so that trumps everything else...

Sounds like my wife except for the "makes a butt load of money" part :D. Also, "can" is the key word in "can cook dinner". "Can" =/= "does".

It’s not a “mistake”, but an option....and not a good one in my humble opinion. You can see what I drive, if that says anything.

Yeah, that's why I had "mistakes" in quotes. I know people with GMs who love them, but I've also heard some of the issues they've had. I guess it just depends on if you wanna roll the dice and how much energy you're willing to spend dealing with any issues that pop up. Same goes for our Toyotas, but the historical reliability is obviously a big part of (among other things) what drove most of us to our Tundras.

Also, if you've got a 3500 you obviously have some different needs than most of us with just a Tundra :D.

I would so have a Tundra if towing wasn’t my main concern. My 12’ CM put up with a lot more than it should have.

The cylinder deactivation just does it in for me for all the 1/2 Ton market.

I really like the look of the Sierras. I also really like the new Ford F-250. I also like some of the features the big three have put in their trucks. But, I don’t like the odds of dealing with more issues than I likely will with my Tundra.
I choose reliability and that’s why I have been a Toyota owner the last twenty years and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Funny you say that. My 2015 F250 work truck with the 6.2L almost didn’t start today. It was 18* out, 6800 miles on the clock.

The fleet at my current employer are Dodges. Total garbage. My personal work truck is a dodge dually diesel and it is a rattling piece of garbage. 28000 on it and it’s had more issues than I can list.
My last company had a full fleet of Fords.
Again, nothing but issues. My last truck there was a F350 with the 10 cylinder gas engine. It was a doggy piece of junk and was always going back to the dealer.
I have first hand experience with the big threes “quality” and that’s why when I leave work I roll out in a Tundra!

I also think the GMC are great looking trucks. When i was looking at a new truck to buy, i only thought about GMC for around 30 seconds.
I do have a 99 2500 GMC in my driveway just as a beater truck because i have spent more money than i care to admit on keeping it running.

We all have bad temptations. I got offered a trade for my truck to go to a fully built Colorado and almost took it. But at the end of the day the only time you should even consider a trade is if you need a deisel for hauling.

Keep the Tundy. It really is the best truck out there in the 1/2 world.
