Finally got a Tundra, what mods should I do first?

Stock:



2004 Tundra Double Cab 4WD V8.

Started with getting rid of most of the chrome. Plasti-dipped mirrors, badges, and rear bumper.



Also added a TRD off road sticker (Looks OEM).

I then installed Bilstein 5100s in the front to level the vehicle:



Then installed an all black grille and got new tires:


And then...

Installed a bumper.

Do you have any experience with blacking out headlights / taillights?

What would you recommend I do for those?

 

Welcome and congrats. Window tint was my first mod and love it. It changes the look of the vehicle and it's cheap too.

 

Welcome and congrats on your 1st Tundra. Window tint is definitely an affordable mod that I've always done first with any of my vehicles. You might want to research which dealer(s) in your area sells/install FormulaOne Pinacle Series tint. They have a lifetime warranty on their tint which covers bubbles, scratches, fading, etc.. and any FormulaOne dealer nationwide will warranty it. That's all I've ever used.

Okay thanks for the suggestions, i think the windows may actually have some tints on them already.

I don't know how i feel about putting my headlights into the oven...

Apparently the process of BHLM is pretty simple. But you have to make sure that that you do not touch the inside the lamp assembly. Also you have to wait for the paint to completely dry.

I personally decided not to do this mod (and halo). I've seen too many posts reporting problems with this mod, even after just a few months.

I was looking to do the same thing (having it professionally done) too when I came across various posts reporting problems. Apparently some guys had BHLM done professionally and had the same set of issues. After reading through numerous reports/posts, it seemed to me more troublesome than it's worth. If you are more mechanically talented than I am and don't mind correcting the issues, I guess that's no biggie. Me? Once I install a component, I hate having to fiddle with it frequently, at least more frequently than stock.

 

How does one black out the chrome? Buy new or paint old? Also I want a grill like yours! I love it!!!

Congrats on 2nd gen, I had an 2006 limited crewmax and still have the matching Sequoia. Try blacking out the rims, inexpensive and looks aggressive.

LMAO, you made me spit out my water... I found a brother and can tell my wife that I'm not the only Psycho who draws everything out in Visio to make sure it's going to work. Don't say its comedy, we both you were kinda serious... Love it and the mods look great!

Been a while since i posted in this thread but here's some updates...

Got new tires a few months ago:






285 / 75 R16 BFG Goodrich ATs KO2 - Pro Comp 69 Series Black

Love these tires.

And then a month or so after that my bumper finally came in:





Sent it to the shop to get powdered coated and put it on:










Might get a winch or some lights in the future. But thats it for now...

Bumper is from Really well built. Really good looking, pretty happy with where I'm at currently.

Looks really good! I just put new BFG KO2s also. Huge improvement over my old Nittos.

 

These are possibly the best AT tires ever made, seriously, they're phenomenal.

I wholeheartedly agree! I've had them in all different sizes(31,33,35)over the years but this new version is the best yet.

 

Sort of. Brute Force Fab specializes in first gen tundra bumpers and other stuff for the first gen tundra.

It's just a 1 or 2 man show at that company at the moment so the price was fairly high and so was the wait time. (3 and a half months)

I think he's starting to do the newer tundra now too. He does tacoma bumpers also.

 

That rear bumper is too sweet! I want, no I NEED one! The Double Cabs are slightly wider than the AC or RC, I wonder if it affects fit?

 

A bumper that would fit a double cab would not fit an access cab, and vice versa. Same goes for single cab 1st gen tundras too I believe. Thats why no one really makes good bumpers for 1st gens.

But yeah that rear bumper is pretty cool too. Gotta cut the bed for that one.
