It's no secret that I've posted my "issues" with my prostate cancer here. Several forum members have surprisingly responded that they know someone with prostate cancer or quality of life problems related to the prostate.. We always hear about breast cancer, for good reason, but not much about how many men have problems with their prostate. Yeah....I know... who and the Hell wants to talk about that!! Well.. I do. Today was my 16th radiation treament. 24 more to go. I'm getting radiation because cancer cells left my prostate and got into nearby lymph nodes. I'm "lucky" that the cancer didn't spread beyond the abdominal cavity. Once it's get beyond and spreads to the bones you are looking at chemo. Radiation is no longer an option in most cases after that. If you are 40 years old, get a PSA test as part of your annual physical. Don't wait until your 50. My urologist is treating a 29 year old fireman for prostate cancer... Say what??? A high PSA can be a indicator of "possible" prostate cancer. At my age, now 62, a PSA of 4 is somewhat normal. My "wellness" exam last Feb was very thorough. It included a PSA test. My PSA test result was 11.9!!. My primary care doctor said.."The PSA test may not be a true indicator of prostate cancer but.....a 11.9 is a HUGE flag."Long story short..I've got it. I'm fortunate enough to have Dr Sorce. Was told he is in the top 5 urologists in the country. Enough of this..... I truly believe there is a serious prostate problem with men that's under reported. FYI....I did not have any precursor symptoms... Peeing a lot at night. My prostate was actually normal sized. Mind you ..this thread is not only about my prostate cancer. Not even. I'm doing this thread to make awareness that a lot of men are experiencing prostate issues. I thought about doing a poll about this but quite frankly I'd prefer actual life responses. Personal or someone you know. You get it.. A fellow member here, Les, gave me some good info and said there should be a prostate issue thread here because there are so many men here. That being said... I would be willing bet big $$$ that our great female members here know someone in their family or friends that have this issue too and please chime in.......OK.. I started this thread. Wasn't easy doing this.... NEXT................

Hi Matt. I had no idea of your condition or I would have said something and sent some prayers your way. I’m sorry I missed it :(

I applaud you for opening up and posting this. I will be getting an exam soon, not only cause if your post, but also a coworker just got diagnosed with colon cancer. A good friend of my wife has prostate cancer and it did spread; she’s in a bad place right now. I’m 44 going on 45 and I’m getting to that age where health is very important, especially with younglins.

Thanks for bringing awareness to this issue that afflicts many men.:hattip:

Great post Matt. This could save someone's life so God for you for opening up. I agree there is not enough awareness out there for this disease. I wish you the best in your battle with the disease. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Good on you for opening up, man. It’s hard to open the door to a conversation sometimes, especially when it comes to health, etc.
I hope your chemo therapy works out and you’re able to persevere. Anybody who goes to battle with cancer is a bad mofo. Pardon my English, but fuck cancer. My old man died from lung cancer, so I can say that I’ve witnessed the battle first hand, and it isn’t easy.
We’re all here for you, buddy.

My situation is curable. Having my grandkids living in my place is a huge distraction. When you are younger and get this bullshit cancer.. you want to save your prostate. My prostate was clear of cancer on the left side. The right side was 95% to 99% cancer. Bone scan/MRI came back good. Didn't spread. Whew!! Prostate had to go. If you are unfortunate enough to get it and still want kids.....the doc will try to save it, unless too far gone. No prostate... no more kids...

The best part about prostate cancer is that it gives you drive to change your overall health conditions. Matt, if it hasn’t changed your perspective on health then take comfort knowing that it has mine. I’m not claiming either of us were particularly unhealthy, just that your experience has opened my eyes. I have followed (sometimes quietly, sometimes not) your progress over the past 11 months and I can tell you that I have altered my eating, my drinking, my toxins, and although none of which promoted your PC, It was an eye opener for me. You might have a couple years on me but those particular years fly by.

Please trust me when I say that your positivity has been a catalyst for me

By the way....I’m still waiting on that day on the river you threatened me with about 10 months ago

Well if no more kids is the worst of what you’re left with, I’d say you won.

It’s crazy how precisely they can treat cancer these days.
Literally blasting a small area of cells with the same energy that built the galactic system that we live in..

If you’ve ever lived in an age where cancer is treatable disease, this is it.
Power through, brother. You’re in all of our prayers.

Great post, thanks for sharing. Prayers coming your way for you and yours.

I recently posted something about me having to get a testicular CT scan due to a lump I found. Turns out I was lucky and it’s only a cyst. But, I’m 41 and my dr and I agree I should get a PSA test done sooner rather than later just to be on the safe side.

Great advice Matt and you’re a survivor.

6 of my uncles have had prostrate cancer, my Dad had it, and there is a damn good chance I will. All of them were at 60-67 when diagnosed and no loss of life due to the same advice you have given.

Good luck with the test Dave.
It certainly can't hurt. Some Docs don't think much about the PSA test. The test results can be somewhat elevated and mean absolutely nothing (sometimes). A low test result doesn't necessarily mean an individual is cancer free either (sometimes). In my case my test results were so high there was no doubt and sure enough my biopsy confirmed the obvious.

I was surprised how many of my coworkers had no idea what a PSA test was. Needless to say several of them near my age have gotten the test. One coworker s' test came back high and just had a biopsy. I don't know what the results were but he asked for my urologists #. Wants a second opinion.

Hey mat. So we all know that a physician is a licensed individual in the art of practicing medicine. Operative word “practicing”.

Try this try that, try this try that.

I find that one-a-day men help me in the past. Even better is Super Beta Prostate.

I recommend the latter, I get no perks mentioning their names, but hey.....

Us men will experience prostate problems at some point in our lives, it’s how you address it ....

Have had my PSA tested for the last 8 years...I'm 54 now. This last time it came back at 5.4. My primary doc sent me to the urologist. Urologist odered a biopsy. Biopsy showed one microscopic cell that did not look quite normal but not cancer either. Going to get another PSA in 4 months to see if it has changed. Here is to both my doc's for staying on top of this for me!. Get checked everytime they do blood work...they already are taking blood, might as well have them check the PSA too.
Good luck Matt! I'll send a few up for you too!

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I wish you well in "eliminating the cancer". I personally do not know of any men who have or have had prostate cancer, though most likely they would not disclose it if they did, most men are too prideful. However, Cancer seems to be a growing epidemic in developed countries. I wonder why that might be... I have my own conspiracies on this but the stats are below:

Excellent post....I've heard the reason men don't live as long as women is because we refuse to see our doctor regularly!!

Let me tell you about my neighbor, Bill. Bill has always had back issues. A few years ago, Bill told me his back was acting up, again. I told him to get checked out and he said, "Naw, they'll just say the same thing...'take motrin and lose some weight'.

Well it got worst and Bill finally got checked out. Turns out Bill had cancer that had spread into his spine and was in Stage IV (the final stage before you die). Bill was only in the hospital for 3 weeks before he died.

So get off your butt and see your doctor for medical issues...whether you think they are "small" or not. Cancer does run in my family so I go in yearly (if I haven't been) and ask for a full-set of tests and specifically make sure my PSA test is in there. (I'm due next month for my yearly)

Oh, if you are over 50 and haven't had a colonoscopy then do it. (It's not that bad and if you're healthy they'll let you go 10-years before needing it again.)

Thanks for the additional comment on getting a colonoscopy. Got mine just before my prostate surgery. Found 3 minor polyps which were removed. Don't need another check for 5 years. There are colon cancer patients getting radiation where I go. The worse thing about a colonoscopy is the crap you have to drink the night before.

    Well said my friend..
I too have been quietly following Matt for close to a year now..
    Hat's off :hattip:to You Matt.

I hope if I am ever faced with THAT turn of events... I would have your courage & strength!
I just don't know if I could be as strong.

    Matt,
I know your post wasn't about YOU............... hat's off to you anyway
